I had the black line on my right thumb. I had been going through a lot of testing for pain and a swollen spleen. I was diagnosed with Non Hodkins Lymphoma. One off the chemo nurses said she had never seen the black line before. Kiddingly, I told her that when the line was gone I would be all better. Turns out I was right. I am in remission for almost 2 years and no black lines. I have given up eating all grains. I have gotten rid of all prescription meds except Metformin for Diabetes (which I think the diabetes is a side effect of chemo).
You may have a heart infection. See a cardiologist immediately.

Hi Kate. I realise that your comment above was appr. a year ago but in any case I am hoping that you may still get this message. I have a greyish vertical line running through my right thumb and my big toe. What enzymes did you purchase to assist with getting rid of the streaks?
I don't know what causes it but I got rid of the black line by putting nail polish on the nail. I think even clear polish works. Keep it on until it grows out.
If nail was trimmed too short it would likely be blood....and will absorb eventually.
My 9 year old son has a black line going down the middle of his left nail. I thought nothing of it. He's had it for about 6 months now. I thought it was just a marker at first, I'm really worried now I've read all this.
Hello just want to know if whats the result of your check up. As i saw 1of my pointed fingers has light black lines. I am very concerend and scared as well. Thank you.
My 7 y/o has the same issue. I thought it was due to him breaking his arm. Have an apt with the deem and hopefully it's nothing.

I'm getting a biospy on my thumb because of my blk line. I'm hoping not to loose my thumb but better then my life.
