When I was reading about some of the complications that can be caused by diabetes, some of the diseases that were mentioned were atheroma and atherosclerosis. These sound very similar and I am sure that they have something to do with the veins? What is the difference between atheroma and atherosclerosis?
Well, atheroma is what happens to the arteries when they swell and debris builds up on the insides of the artery walls. When atheroma progresses, and the arteries harden and thicken, what results from that is called atherosclerosis. When detected early, atheroma can be reversed through eating a healthy diet and being physically active.
