I'm with Jacked Up, except I"m not in shape. At all.
I am in good shape, meaning, as bad are my feet are, I can ride my bike, do pilates, yoga, swim, and light wieghts, some mix of which I do four - five times a week.
I'm not a machine like I used to be (about 10% body fat, kick-boxing, spinning classes, and running about 35 miles a week along with weights. I think I over-worked myself.
I'm skinnier than I ever have been due to an unexpected illness where they (the hospital) starved me for 6h for sex days other than IV fluids and ice chips, jello and ginger ales). Not much fun. I can think of much better ways to lose weight. (Oh, wait, that means I am healthy enough for sex!)
I feel good, and all my blood tests are fine now. No high cholesterol or high blood pressure, and my pancreatic enzymes are almost normal again.

a)
- ~10% BF
- Able to bench 1.25x body weight
- Able to squat at least 2x body weight
- Able to deadlift at least 2.25x body weight
- Able to run the mile in < 7 min
I don't see me deadlifting 300 pounds anytime soon.

Well, now you have something to work towards.

I have no idea what my body fat percentage would be

I doubt I could squat 2 x bw and I know i can't dead 2.25 x bw (cause I very rarely dead lift). The other three are easy enough for me.

I don't think I can squat or deadlift that much. I do those (or variations of) exercises on a regular basis btw....260-270 lbs is alot to carry around... :umno:I understand the importance of strength training for running (ie. injury prevention, form/technique enhancement, core strengthening) but I doubt runners, especially those aiming to run faster should focus so much on building muscle mass by carrying such massive loads. It's just plain sport specificity.
For BF, I was around 5% or so in the middle of marathon training last year...I am probably not too far from that (or at the same level) right now.
I haven't done an actual mile race but I'm guessing I'm in the low 5s by now if I'm trained for such an event. My V02 interval pace (5k effort) would be somewhere in the 5:40s.

Tim, I meant generally "in shape", not speficially for running.
Meb will probably never dead lift 2.25 x bw and Ronnie Coleman will probably never run a sub 7 min mile.

Isn't that the dude from Different Strokes?

No, that was Dabney Coleman.

Either way, I doubt he could run a sub 7.
So, did Ronnie do those cop shows?

of course...
a) define "in shape" b) are you "in shape"1) the ability to perform certain strenuous physical activities over a period of time on a regular non-fluke basis... realistically, i'd say if you could do regular exercise a few times a week, put in a solid workout, and not passout after (unless you were trying to), then i'd say you were in decent shape. you're body is tuned for exercise and you shouldn't be in severe pain after... you shouldn't be feeling sluggish or overtired. i reckon there's a mental state to go with this as well. 2) not as in shape as i'd like to be... i could run 5k + at the drop of a hat, but i'm not as active as i'd like to be, even tho i'm riding 18k/5days a week. mentally i'm still pretty focused - but i could do with some more clarity and less kerfuffle. does that make sense? :|
JU mentioned flexibility... i'm waaay out to lunch on that one. my hips are rotated, and i can't get my knee *ANYwhere* near my chest. i'd like to improve on that.
