I'm racing a 10k this coming Sunday and I'm still debating as to what sort of time I should be aiming for. Although I've seen improvements through my recent workouts, I don't know whether the goal times predicted would be too ambitious...In other words I'm still not convinced that I've improved that much.
Definitely below sub 40...my recent 5k suggests 38 mins...the workouts that I did this week and the previous predicts somewhere around 36-37 mins. At best, maybe even sub 36 if things go phenomenally well...
Racing conditions should be good this weekend...course is fast with a slight elevation loss from start to finish. However it will be a big race (46,000+ participants)..I will most likely be in the seeded start wave...I'll find out Friday whether I qualify for seeding. Will be running in my racing flats for this one.

i say 36:xx. always aim high, exceed your goals :D
You should be running at your ULTIMATE RACE PACE with the aim to make the top 100 - 50 - 25 or even win the race. In other words, you are on the razors edge all the way.
The time will take care of itself!!!

Sub 30.
Sub 30.not in my lifetime...
Based on your last 5K time and the size of the crowd, I'd put you in the low 38s.
Sub 30.not in my lifetime... Why not in your lifetime Tim ? Hard work and proper training anything is possible. Then if that's the way you think your beaten before you start.
36-ish. You'll be surprised at your running when you get to the race. The excitment, the people, the addrenilan (sp?) will really push you forward.
Thanks guys for the input. I'll start off with a semi-conservative pace (6:00-6:07) and see how that goes. If the pace feels good, I'll go for a faster time, if not I'll hold back. I've already received confirmation that I've qualified for seeding...this means I'll be near the front with the faster runners (so less chance of being caught in a stampede of 50,000 people!) and will be in the first start wave.
Phar Lap: the 'not in my lifetime' comment was just a joke...I just don't see myself doing it at this present time, realistically speaking...perhaps I'll be close to that point several years down the road if I'm still running alot.
Anyways I'll post a race report tomorrow afternoon. The official results do not come out until Monday in the Vancouver Sun. Wish me luck!
Now off to pack my racing stuff and then to bed...

Of course you will Tim.
Never put limits on yourself.
I won't wish you good luck for tomorrow you don't need it, you've put the training on the board.
Look forward to your report.
