I had a doctor explain these vaguely to me in High School when I first noticed them. He popped them right out with a q-tip and told me they were harmless, albeit unpleasant smelling and that could come and go my whole life.

I had a more proactive doctor advise alcohol or tea tree oil based mouth wash as a gargle (one tip: do NOT swallow tea tree oil! it is toxic if swallowed!). Both seem to sort of help. At least they freshen the breath and if i have a sore throat at the same time, mouthwash alleviates the pain for awhile.

Also, and this does really limit the number I have, I started scraping/brushing my tongue with a toothbrush that has a tongue scraper on the back of the head.

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only person with this problem! I'm 19 and have had this happen since I was probably 13. My mom thought I was so weird because I was spitting up these little balls of bad smelling something or other. I never new how to find out what this was, so I googled "spitting up random chunk" and here I am with all the answers (or what seem to be reasonable answers anyways).

Like webven6604, I don't notice these chunks until I feel them coming up my throat, and I just cough them out. I know that every time I feel a cold coming on, my tonsils and glands get very swollen, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.

I haven't found any correlation as to why I get it because it happens randomly. However, now I will be sure to look out for things like cheese and rice, and things high in yeast (like alcohol I suppose). I'll definitely try gargling and whatnot, and making note of what I'm eating. I'm so excited I found this out! Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and comments. I feel more normal now!

I am so glad I decided to look this up on the internet. I have had this issue since I was 15 and I am now 35. My mom says she used to get them befored she got her tonsils removed. I am hoping I don't have to get my tonsils removed, it is sure to be quite painful at my age. My throat has been bothering me now for a few days and I've been coughing those little buggers up on a daily basis. I haven't actually seen them this time in my throat, but I know that they are there because when I swallow it tastes like they smell. They range in size and I just poke them out with the end of my toothbrush or something long enough to reach back there.

i was worried that it was something to do with my teeth rotting. they only come up really randomly? i dunno what to do, coz the symptoms arent consistent enuf for me to be able to go to a doctors are they?

I have had four children, all grown, and a pretty bad throat in the past. At 21 my tonsils were finally removed. You have strep throat and is pus collected by your tonsils. Get a different doctor and get tested right now! Strep can be dangerous but it doesn't have to be! I would be extremly surprised to find this was an allergy...that sounds insane! Get to a better doctor now, he should have tested your throat immediately.

There is no reason a person should have these smelly tonsils. they need to be removed. This is poison collected from your body, it can go into strep. It just isn't healthy. find a good doc. and get those tonsils out! I sometimes think these docs. like to keep things going so you can keep on keeping on coming back! Remember it is a business. First and foremost. It's your life, your stinky throat, you can deal with it or just keep doc. in business!

Well, there's proof in statistics as well as various journal reports that having your tonsils removed as an adult carries some serious risk. So, in my opinion, it better be worth it to have them removed.

If I have to remove tonsil stones once every few weeks, so be it. I'm more than willing to take care of them myself.

After suffering from this condition for some 15 years, and never consulting anyone because it was so bizarre, I finally decided to Google it. I'm glad that I'm not a freak of nature after all! I'm going to look into getting my tonsils removed...the amount of Altoids I consume to control my stinky breath is absolutely ridiculous. I'd rather suffer through some temporary pain than keep covering up my bad breat for the rest of my life. Thanks everyone for the informative posts! So glad I finally looked it up!

Wow!

OMG

I was just swimming at the creek with a bunch of friends and for the last year or so I have had these issues of breathing difficulty... pain in my throat, dizziness, nausea, and indigestion. I have more than one health issue I think but... this is the evidence I was looking for!

I finished eating some cereal this morning then went for a swim in the creek this was after I sat and waited for friends in the hot sun for about half an hour.. it's insane out here. it's like nearly 40 C.

Anyhow everyone I talk to thinks I'm paranoid I always ask my doctor to look at things for me and that thing about keeping a business going I think it's right because I had my doctor do all kinds of stuff for me but he never did exactly what I asked.. I told him I had breathing issues he checked me for lung issues and got them x rayed... I have medical coverage here so I don't know what it costs.. but maybe he gets payed alot.

I have "anxiety" issues, or so people tell me I have.

Well, I have had physical symptoms but no one listens to me, now I have solid proof... and a whole forum to look at for answers.

anyhow I started shivering alot I couldn't move very well and I got all quivery... and chilled so I slowly step out of the creek, wade my way to shore then finally I get to shore and my friends are all trying to tell me I'm a p***y get back in the water.. well... I decided not to even the little kids were making fun of me. I'm 21 years old...

So anyways... I puked up these yellow chunks it took about a minute for them to actually come up.. and instead of puking food it came out as yellow chunks just like in that picture!!!

I don't know what they are but from what I've read it's to do with tonsils... I have been searching and searching for some way to prove or find physical evidence of why I have the symptoms I do and now I found it!

Is it possible I could have some kind of infection?

I think I need to find a new doctor mine never really listens to me!!

Hi.. I also suffered from tonsil stones in throat for about 10-12 years which became severe in last few years. regular brushes and mouthwashes even wont help me. The maximum size of stones coming out was 5 mm and at times I even got 3-4 stones. just a week before I started doing breathing excercises 'Pranayam' for 10-15 mins daily, and I got rid of them withn 4-5 days.I dont know whether they'll come back or not after i quit the excercise but I dont mind doing it daily or every alternate day if it keeps those monsters away without undergoing surgery. Look for a few lessons on youtube if u are not familiar with these breathing excercises.

Um ok so I have the same problem.
But I am still a kid...well a teen.
They are so irritating.
I constintily have mucus in my throat so that might have somthing to do with it.
I told my dad but he never gets around to things quickly?
Is the only permenant solution the removal of my tonsils???!

I too have these...sometimes I go for months without having them and then all of a sudden I have them everyday. I went through a period this spring where almost every day for a 3 weeks I had them, and now haven't had them at all since. Can it get worse if you are fighting a cold or throat infection? DON'T use a water pick to try to remove them. I cut my tonsil even on a low setting. I find it best to push on the tonsil with a cotton swab and make the sound like a cat coughing up a hair ball!! Don't do it in front of anyone though...it isn't attractive!

Well, I get these lumps too and I find that if they don't come out fast enough I start to get pain on that side of the throat. The pain totally goes away once I get in there and poke them out with a Q tip. Nassty! I dunno why everyone's saying they're tonsil lumps though cuz I had my tonsils removed when I was a kid! I do smoke pot and just noticed these lumps after I started. I think it's a build up from the mucus. I get really mucussy when I use zig zags and come to think of it, I just popped out some lumps recently after feeling extremely mucussy... hmmm
