White chunks in throat

A lot of people on this thread are either just uneducated due to their age, or simply believe they're doctors when they're actually... not at all. From thinking it's white blood cells to signs of rotting teeth, I just lost faith on this thread after reading one of it's posts. I don't come to only sound negative.

Since I can't delete what this person said, I will just tell you it has nothing to do with pharyngitis. You can get them when you have it but that isn't what they are. They are called TONSILLOLITH. You can look them up on WIKIPEDIA. Once you check it out you can find everything you are looking for about this. I have never brought this problem up to anyone because of how disgusting they are, but am glad to hear it is common. I am pretty sure everyone gets them throughout there life just some people don;t pay attention as much as we have. It is funny we all have decided to smell them for some reason. Then again maybe at first we were trying to figure out what food was left behind in our mouth to make that.

it happens to me to and i just suck the part of my throat until it comes out when i had tonsillitis they were bigger that a quarter

Ive had these from time to time, but just thought they were food or something i coughed up. recently my throat was hurting horrible for about 10 days. I thought i was just sick, but i had no symptoms. Just a horrible sore throat. I mean every time i swallowed, on a scale of 1-10 I was at 9 in pain!! I was looking in the back of my throat and say a white chuck kinda lodged in a grove next to my tonsil. I went to the doctor and even told him what i saw, He said he saw nothing and ran a Throat culture test. But that pissed me off casue i knew what I saw. And there was something there. the next day the pain got a little less, and I was playing football and got hit, and coughed up this little white-yellowish chuck. of course i ran to a mirror and noticed nothing in the back of my throat. and it instantly felt better. then i remembered before when this had happened and thought nothing of it. Because it happened not to often, and it never hurt like this one did. I wish i would have looked online before i went to the doctor and he ran that throat culture test. Im sure that is gonna cost a lot!

i have has this issue on and off since 3rd grade. in 6th grade my tonsil seemingly grew and i had a pocket full on the left side. tonight i have a huge pocket full on my right side. i use a rubber tipped clay tool from my artistic years to scrape them out. they are very annoying. i have an issue with them about once a year. and i do use a flashlight a swell. tonight they seem endless to remove.

Well I don't understand why I'm getting them because I had my tonsils removed over 15 yrs ago!!! Can tonsils grow back or what?! Now I'm scared...

Its not from allergies, its food that has gotten stuck back there behind your tonsils called crypts. Basically after you chew small bits get push back. Its stays there your body signal macrophages (white blood cells) to go get ride of them, just like bacteria or other foreign objects. Its white because that is the byproduct of phagocytosis (when the white cells "eat" the food). This is exactly like pus. As often as you can just check for build up. Use your finger to push the stuff out, before its gathers, gets hard and causes a very sore throat.

I have just started coughing these up in the last few weeks. I was worried I had something wrong with my tonsils until I researched online. These chunks are called tonsil stones. They are caused by an irritant (commonly food particles) getting stuck around the tonsils or the back of the throat and becoming infected. Another cause is what I am currently dealing with. Allergies have been causing nasal drainage which in turn gets stuck behind one of my tonsils which has become swollen due to these allergies. Don't worry too much about these stones. They are not cancer and you can get rid of them. I have heard of many people scraping them off and not having an issue thereafter. However if your tonsils become extremely inflamed I would suggest that you seek medical assistance.

Yes, thats definately the stuff. Mine are also a bit yellow as well, sometimes just white. I have had this problem for years, but it definately seems to come and go and never gives me any real issues. I am almost positive it has to do with dairy and sinus. If it gave me bad breath I would do something about it, otherwise I can swallow them or they just get coughed out. But yes, that is tonsilliths you have pictured next to the dime.

hay i was just looking this up because i just pulled 2 massive one out ofmy throat...i have had them for years...but mine did not start until i was an adult...although i do remember as a child feeling like i swallowed something alot but nothing was there...lmao..ewww....but i remember one time when i was in church( and you can feel these things comming out) i went to the bathroom because it was just scratchin my throat...i didnt have my usual tools for removal(bobby pin or safty pin) so i had to use my finger...and boy was i determined...and really upset this was hapening now so i took my finger and squeez my tonsil against the side of my mouth careful not to cover the hole as i was squeezing it...and OMG i could hear it as THEY were coming out ...i had alot in there in all te amount of stuff that came out was the size of an almond or a little bigger all together...and this only happens in one f my tonsils...so i dont knwo about llof you alls theroy and my dr...my dr because i was horrified the next time it happened i took a sample to her...her response was its food and bacteria....but as a child i had enlarged tonsils and my dr at the time didnt want to remove them he said they woudl get better and they did they arent as big but the one has a hole in it that i can fir a q-tip in....so i think that it really is something wrong with my tinsil and i dont think its food...i mean doctors just PRACTICE med. so they dont know what happens or whats wrong until things happen for them to have an example and someone researches it and gives his educated opinion on what they THINK it is......all i knwo is that i am 28 and i still have them....and suprisingly enough as i was readig this today my daughter (9y.o) just coughed up her 1st one and showed me...lmao im gross i smashed it and smelled it to see if it smelled like mine...wow it was worst i almost threw up...lmoa...but hers was HUGE it was the size of a macadamia nut and a half all in one peice and hers was green. ok ...lmao..i know you all are really grossed out!!!

from what I have read, they are called throat nuggetss. There are some discussion boards if you enter " throat nuggets ". And yes, they smell like sh*t3

I am reading your posts.... in a search to find out what is happening to me. I have not been sick... so no coughing or sniffling.... But I noticed, when I cleared my throat, this small grey mass came in my mouth. It was not round but had an odd shape. It was about the size of the tip of my thumb but half the width. The color was grayish with red near one end. It was spongy but not at all like a mucus. And it had a foul odor. After this happened, I did feel something in my throat and I was wondering if it was a piece of my throat.
I was wondering if I was going crazy! I had not had any meat during the day and could not think of a single food that it could be.
Do you think this could be what you all are talking about? Or something different?

i cannot tell you the relief i felt when reading this, i have now for quite sometime been coughing up white massses,i was so scared as my father past away from brain cancer and i thought i maybe had some sort of cancer, mine started i could feel a chunk in my throat it felt like i was gagging and choking i went to er and dr said it was food that just stayed in that place and removed it, iseriously probably removed like 20 of these things over 6 months but always and still cough up these masses did so at work tonight,and they stink...what did dr recommend for you? i really dont want to cough these up forever. thanks for all your posts
