I've used Meloxicam (Mobic) 15 mg for 2 months for a broken patella and wrist, and then it was continued for a rotator cuff surgery so it's been 7 months total now and I have 2 more refills before a new Rx is issued. From what I've been reading, I shouldn't be taking it at all bc I am on BP meds (Metoprolol 100 mg 2x). I have noticed weight gain (13 lbs) and fatigue and have wanted to stop Meloxicam on the spot, blaming it. I forgot to take both a.m. meds yesterday (Mobic & Meto) and since I have wanted to stop Mobic anyway, I didn't take it this a.m. either, nor will I again unless withdrawal signs already mentioned are too troublesome. Then, I guess I'll wean off. Thanks for all your imput, it was helpful. Just one note, some of my weight gain surely was due to being less active due to my injuries. The fatigue may be due to the weight gain, I just don't know.

I am feeling the same. I stopped the high dose of Meloxican a week ago. Awful..thought I had the flu. No energy. Blew a disc in my back a year ago had the operation but did no good. Meloxican with Paxol took care of the pain but now what. My kidneys are hurting and I feel like a slug.

I had just about all the symptoms talked about in this forum: shaky, irritable, low concentration, tired. I wonder what the official website says, but there seem to be some definite withdrawal symptoms

I have always felt weird and sort of sick if even off it for a day, i recently stopped it due to a severe IBS situation and had chills and shakes like I have never experienced. I am thinkin it was the detox of going off cold turkey. I have taken it for years, I dont want to go back on it.

Most of what everyone is discribing is how I feel after my doctor took me off of Meloxicam. Weak, tired, sleeping a lot, of course the orginal back pain which otc meds only last half as long as they are meant to. I just wanted to find out how long this withdrawal period lasts?

If I even missed one day, I would feel as if getting the flu. I stopped it in Dec. and feel much better without it! I also had leg cramps while on it.

I have been on 10mg of mobic daily for several years and stopped cold a few days ago for an upcoming procedure...suffering from increasingly severe headaches, irritability and anxiousness.

Same here. I missed a few doses when my prescription ran out. I thought it was working great because I felt soooo bad when I was off of it.  Misses one dose again and that is what prompted me to google this.  I am very anxious, very tired and feel like I have the flu.  Reading this has helped.  At least I have something to blame this on.

I stopped taking meloxicam a few days ago because it may have been causing acid reflux. Within 36 hours every joint in my body hurt from my neck to my toes. The pain was much worse than the pain I had when it was prescribed in the first place.
So now I'm taking it again and I'll see if the reflux returns.
Guess I'll make an appointment...

I had taken Mobic also once for shoulder pain and after weighing the same for 5 years; gained nearly 10 pounds in 8 days with slight swelling in feet and hands. Stopped immediately and now list as an allergy. What woman would take this besides the health issues with this reaction?

I'M SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS THREAD IN THIS WEBSITE!!! I thought I was losing my mind!!!

I was put on meloxicam, 15mg a day, for overall aching that had been keeping me awake at night - pain in all my joints and muscles - and horrible cramps in my calves. The doctor said I appeared to have developed "systemic inflammation". I had admittedly started working too hard in the yard without gradually getting back into shape. (And maybe there's something to barometric pressure change and bodily pain, since it had rained every other day that week.)

  • HOWEVER, one 15mg meloxicam DID stop the aching much better than a fistful of aspirin or tylenol, and I slept all night uninterrupted for the first time in a long time. But after a couple of happy days of 15mg mobic a day, I started feeling a worrisome tightness and pressure in my chest (I feared a heart attack was coming on) and to my total bewilderment, I became very depressed! - a "sad, empty" feeling - for no apparent reason. The pharmacist said that he'd heard similar complaints from other first-time users of mobic/meloxicam and even pointed out on the info sheet I'd been given (which I hadn't read) that these were reported side-effects.
  • I STOPPED taking the meloxicam right away, and within a couple of days the tightness in my chest stopped and the dark depression was definitely lifting.
  • But OTOH, not only did the pain creep back, but I now felt absolutely physically exhausted and drowsy all the time - all I wanted to do was sleep, sometimes 12 hours a day, pain or no pain.
  • As an experiment, I started the meloxicam AGAIN, and the physical exhaustion and drowsiness decreased, but the chest tension and the depression came back!! I was caught in a vicious circle!!
  • So I quit AGAIN, and just "took to my bed", with turmeric, tylenol (aspirin+turmeric=maybe bleeding risk?), and hot baths.
  • Meanwhile, I found out that I was calcium deficient! (I'm dairy intolerant.) Once I resumed a daily calcium supplement (balanced with D and magnesium supps), the awful cramps just in my calves disappeared completely!! At least THAT was miraculous and problem-free.

But the exhaustion and the long unrestful sleep (post-meloxicam) remain - I'm waking still tired after 12 hours of sleep!! But NOT taking meloxicam! Oh, when will this stop??

I have been on Mobic for many years for arthritis and pain from 8 spinal surgeries. The last spinal surgery was a complete failure and left me worse than before. The doctor can see the metal apparatus in my back and noted that the screws have broken, but he said a 9th surgery would be too much for a 74 old man. Because I have been a couch potato since the last surgery, I have gained a lot of weight. I am getting ready for bariatric surgery and the surgeon said I can never use Mobic or any other medication like it for the rest of my life. I quit cold-turkey and after 2 days I have every withdrawal symptom mentioned. The worst is leg pain which I never had before. I can walk with great difficulty and much pain. I can stand no more than 5 minutes. I have to use a recliner to ease the pain. This pain is worse than the recovery after spinal surgery. Don't let anyone tell you there is no withdrawal from Mobic. The complaints here tell the real truth.

I have been prescribed Mobic for a little over a year, and I just stopped in preparation to try to get pregnant. Been off now for about a week. My pain is awful and constant. I'm irritable and anxious, noticeably more emotional than normal.

Thank you for the information. I've been taken mobic for 2 months and I have gained 10 pounds, I will stop taking it starting today. It has helped my arthritis but the rapid weight gain is an important factor and I'm not willing to take.
