Hi. I have been on birth control for the past seven or eight months and am usually very consistent about taking my pills. My boyfriend and I have an active sex life, and he generally uses a condom or pulls out if there is any likelihood that I may be susceptible to pregnancy. Since my last period, which is supposed to come within the next few days, we have only had sex a few times and I had either taken my pill except one day when he used a condom instead and I took my pill as soon as I could get home and take it. A couple days after the last time we had sex, I was in a traumatic car accident and have been in both physical therapy (for my lower back, which was injured in the accident) and emotional therapy for trauma since then. Therefore, I am having trouble distinguishing if the tiredness I am feeling and slight mood swings are from the accident or a pregnancy sign. Can someone help me distinguish whether there is even a good chance that I am pregnant, or am I just overreacting because I'm emotional from the accident.

Thank you

I doubt very much that you are pregnant as it seems that you are quite careful, however if you are more than a day late taking your pill than you need to use alternative forms of contraception for the entire month because once you do release an egg it is out there and can still get fertilised on a different day and this may not happen until after the missed pill.

When I was on the pill, I NEVER missed a period so if you're the same then you will soon have your answer anyway. I don't think you're pregnant but if you do miss your period then buy a HPT. Certainly worth the money. Remember an implantation bleed will be a very small amount of blood and most women don't even notice it so it's very hard to confuse it with your period.

Hope you have a swift recovery from your accident.
