Steven McClaran published a study in The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine over the effectiveness of personal training. McClaran found that “one-on-one personal training is an effective method for changing attitudes [of clients] and thereby increasing the[ir] amount of physical activity.”
You will build life-long habits because a personal trainer changes your outlook on fitness in general.
Still need more reasons to hire a trainer?

They Push Your Limits And Show You How Strong You Really Are
Have you heard the saying “If it’s not challenging you, it’s not changing you?” There are going to be days you feel great and intrinsically motivated. Other days you will need some tough love from your trainer to get you through those last two repetitions. You hired them to push you! Work hard for them, and push your limits.
Are you ready to understand your true strength? Let a personal trainer take you out of your comfort zone and show you your actual ability when it comes to your physical strength. You may be surprised at how strong you really are. You may have just needed someone to take you the extra step and tell you, “Yes you can!”
Learn Something New Every Session
When your personal trainer is putting you through new exercise routines, you are learning invaluable information that you can use for the rest of your life. For example:
- You will learn how to train different muscle groups and why you should train them.
- You learn how to properly lift.
- You learn how to use all the gym equipment and properly.
- You learn how to vary your workouts.
- You learn about weight lifting, cardiovascular exercises, and functional training.
- You learn how to eat properly.
You will never “un-learn” these things. It is knowledge that you can use to better your health – forever.
Personalized Meal Plans
Diet and exercise go together just like peanut butter and jelly. Maybe that’s a bad example for this section…
Anyway, your personal trainer can also create a meal plan that works in conjunction with your training program to help you shed pounds. This means they show you what foods you should eat, based on your likes and dislikes, and the portions you should eat them in. Meal plans are different for everyone, and that’s why it’s great to have a professional help you with your diet.

Group Fitness Doesn’t Do Any Of The Above
Group fitness cannot provide one-on-one attention, teach you how to train, explain why you are doing the exercises you are doing, nor will they provide you with a meal plan to compliment your exercising. You will not leave each day from your session with new knowledge about healthy living.
The choice is clear…
Conclusion
You get what you pay for. When you opt to hire a personal trainer you will spend money, but the money is truly an investment in your own health and an accountability piece. Flores says, “Whether you buy 4 sessions or 40 does not matter. You will walk away with knowledge that will be with you forever.”
