I have came across a news article about 1 million drivers being banned for being insulin dependant??!  I am insulin dependant and I have to have my ability to drive!  I can't remember where this happened, but I am concerned that it may turn into a trend of some sort.  If every country decides insulin dependant diabetics cannot drive, what will become of us??  It is discrimatory if you ask me. It is just not right taking our rights away like that.  Has anyone else seen this news article.  Google it.  Read it and tell me what you think.

I have never heard that people that drive non-commercial vehicles will have to turn in their licenses any time soon.  It does seem that there is cause for concern for people with insulin-dependency and drive commercial vehicles.  There are many companies that will ask for a doctor's statement saying it is safe for these drivers to operate a large truck or vehicle.  There have been traffic accidents that occurred because of a type 1 diabetic passing out at the wheel of a big rig or other large piece of equipment. It is a concern for the general public as it is for the company who employs an insulin-dependent diabetic.

I never heard about the news either myself but it would make sense for commercial vehicles.  I mean can you imagine a big rig losing control from the driver going into diabetic coma?  There are a lot of trucks on the road. I wonder how many type 1 diabetics are driving that have hypoglycemia frequently?  And that they don’t tell anyone because they need the job and the money?  It is a dangerous thing… it’s too bad these people do not rethink the job they have chosen?  It would make sense to me so you think that they would have given it some thought too.
