Hello im 19 years old and have to go to the hospital for a biopsy next week! i have suspected lymphoma in my throat, the lump is about 1 and a half inch's in lenth and an inch wide, i am becoming increasingly scared as i just realised that my gran who passed away 4 years ago had a lump just like it on her inner thigh but none of the family know what it was and to our knowledge she never went to the doctors and there was no autopsy done on herbodywhen she died. now im worried that this may have been lymhoma and if so can it skip a generation then go to myself. i have been having problems with my lympth nodes for about 4 years now and i am scared that it may be quite progressed if it is lymhpoma. how succesful is the treatment for this and how likely am i to get it again if it is what i have.?
Hi there. First of all, it is quite probably not lymphoma. You are so young so it doesn't sound very likely that you'd have it. I can tell you that it matters how far along you are if you have lymphoma for you to recover so it's totally up to that. I can't really tell you much more than that...can you keep us posted on how it turns out for you?

Hi,

You are getting this checked out next week so I assume you've seen a doctor, good. What did the doctor say besides scheduling the biopsy?

It's not easy to say if it is hereditary. Most studies seem to say that it isn't. Other studies suspect that it could partly be environmental. A lot depends on what kind of lymphoma it is, if it is lymphoma. You need the biopsy results to be certain.

Treatment again depends upon the type of lymphoma. Some types respond very well. You may be placed on chemotherapy treatment.

I know this isn't giving you what you're looking for. We, and you, need more information to be more specific. Please don't jump to any conclusions about what it might be. You're getting it checked and if you have any doubts, get another opinion.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I just wanted to emphasize a point that medic-dan made: please don't jump to conclusions! Everyone always thinks they have cancer--but very few people actually have it. Please just be calm in the meantime and trust that your tests will come out okay, okay?
