I am a bit concerned about my 9 year old moving onto QDS insulin.  He is taking it 4 times a day rather than 2 times a day.  I don't like to see him take so much insulin.  What happens from here?  Does the dosages keep increasing until he cannot have anymore?  Will he then be unable to control his blood sugars then?  I am worried sick about the future.  Can anyone give me some advice?

You should not worry about your son taking any more insulin where he cannot take anymore.  He will be fine as there are many people that have type 1 diabetes and he will do well just as he will.  You will do him good by being his support system.  He needs you to be strong for him.  When a person needs more insulin, it just means that their needs are changing.  He is a growing boy so this would only be natural that his insulin needs would change.  You are taking good care of him and doing a great job so far.  Just keep doing what you are doing.

Yah, my ex-boyfriend has type 1 juvenile diabetes and he does fine with it. He does need to stay one top of his blood sugar levels so that the readings don't go below a certain point.  He was getting a bit loopy when I was with him one time and I kept telling him "check you sugar, babe"  "you need to check your blood sugar" so he finally did and it was 29!  He had enough of his bearings to eat something so it would go back up.  That was about the only time I saw it go down like that because he is good about staying with his eating plan and taking his insulin when he needs to.
