, brand soda's; specifically the Ginger Root Beer and Dr. Zevia. They contain Stevia which is an herbal sugar substitute.
I would like to add that many fresh dark greens contain goitrogens which can interact with medication making it less effective. If you are going to eat them raw then wait for at least 3 hours after taking your medication. However, if you cook the greens then you will be fine.

I've had Hypothyroidism my whole life I was diagnosed with it when I was 5. Since then I had my skinny and fat years. My DR told me by the time I hit 13 the weight will be harder to lose. My average weight was 160lbs. When I was 16 I dropped down to 125 atleast I was the happiest I ever been with my weight, within the past two years ( from age 18-20 ) I've been gaining so much weight and my Doctor will not help me what so ever. I've gained 20lbs atleast in 2 months. I've been on levoxyl 175mg my whole life now I've been givin Synthroid 200mg. I feel disgusting with myself my old clothes don't fit anymore and I am active I just don't eat and sit down I walk around all day and barley ever eat junk food. I weigh about 220 now I can't believe it I cried at my doctors asking for him to help me and he wont so I'm switching my doctor and going online for help to see what else I can do to help. I honestly hate having Hypothyroidism it's the worst. But I'm keeping my head up hopefully I'll find some help on here and else where on the internet.
I have had thyothryoidism since 1991 and there are good times and bad...I find that weight comes and goes depending on my levels which is hard to keep under control...I havent found a diet that works. I do find that as long as I walk for 30 mins a day it help keep my muscles from hurting especially in my legs...Some days I feel bloated and sore and very tired. The weight is just something I have learn to accept . My weight will vary from 175 to 200 lbs (I'm 5'6) depending on my meds. I also find that it affects my personality somes days I can be very irritable , tired, moody, despressed, and well just hard to get along with and every little thing bugs me (my husband can confirm that) Be sure to let your family and co-workers including your boss know of this so that if u do have a bad day that is not usual for you they will understand ... It is a hard diease to live with but with good support and doctor it can make it easlier to deal with. I wish you all the best
I have recently joined the herbal one center and although expensive at first I was able to loose 40 pounds and learn how to eat better,I still struggle with some of the weight but Im getting there!!
I have Hypothyroidism and was diagnosed 18 years ago. The best diet I found that helps out loos wait is South Beach Diet or a Diet that is based off my blood type. And continuing exercises. It's difficult to find one that works but one based off your blood type might be best.
hi! im a girl in middle school, and i was born with NO thyroid. yeah. lucky me. i currently weigh about 215, and i dont eat that much. i have a small breakfast, salad for lunch, and meat for dinner. i am a very active person. i play softball 10 hours a week, in the sun, sweating all day. i play basketball 10 hours a week, running up and down the court. i swim a little too. yet all i do is gain. i take synthyroid, .075 mg, and nothing. my docter has raised it 4 times. plus, it took my parents until i was in 4th grade to realize i had a problem. so i started the meds in 4th grade. anyone know a good diet?
Just because people are asking for help to lose weight does not mean they sit on their asses, everyone metabolism is different.
First off I am sorry you have to deal with this so young, i understand where you are coming from I was diagnosed with hashimotos at 11 and just had my thyroid removed in 2012 because of cancer. so i have also been dealing with the same issue I was really overweight from 12-21 and I was a competitive cheerleader and soccer player. The doctor kept me on 100mcg levothyroxine/synthyroid, but i still felt horrible and had trouble losing weight. They check your levels and usually if it falls between 0.5-5ish they consider it normal no matter how you feel. You/your parents need to be your own advocate, pushing the drs. to listen. sometime your body absorbs the generic better then synthyroid sometimes it absorbs synthyroid better. if you switch the manufacture it can effect the absorption . I have also been told about armour thyroid and have been thinking of switching although trying to find a doctor to prescribe it is hard.
Hi, I've been reading some of the messages and they all break my heart. I have so many medical problems, survivor of cancer three times, just coming off Tamafin. I have itersidual cystitis, Epstein Barr Disease (fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue), having a disk removed in neck on the 9th, and other things going on, plus I'm taking care of a parent that has Parkinson and Dementia. Talking about being crazy! I cry at night many times about what's going in my life, if it weren't for God I don't know what I would do. I got on Amazon.com and found several books for Hypothyroidism and diet. I'm going to see how I can loose this 30 lbs. I put on almost over nght. After getting over Septis, it's like what else is going to happen. I'll keep you all posted.
I am 17 and am taking 125 mcg of synthroid. I am 5'7 and weigh 213 pounds right now. Even the doctor says that I don't look like i weigh that much, but I still get sef-conscious and I am SOOO sick and tired of my doctor saying that the medicine will work. He keeps upping it, even though my blood reads out normal, and I have all of my symptoms. I am so miserable all of the time. I just want to eat in a way that will help me have more energy so that I can exercise and be healthier. I don't dislike exercising, I just never have time. As I read through your post, my mouth was just watering to no end!!!! multiple snacks throughout the day just sounds amazing as I already do that but with less healthy foods. I usually just grab what is handy, because i have no energy to make anything better. I think that your diet plan just sounds wonderful, and I just told my dad about it. He said it sounds like a plan, and we are going to go shopping, so that I can try it out. Hopefully I can stick to it, since I just LOVE all of the foods you named, AND I already eat small portions several times throughout the day. THANKYOU so much for posting this. I honestly think that it can help me a lot. I have been searching everywhere for a plan that I could stick to, since I don't know enough about health to plan one for myself. I will let you know if I lose any weight or at least have some more energy! Thank you! -Jordan
Mandiee, you need to change doctors. I reccommend a Naturopathic Doctor, and I also reccommend Armour Thyroid as opposed to Levoxyl, Synthroid, or any generic brands. If the Naturopathic Doctor does not help, try to find an Endocrinologist who specializes in Thyroid Disorders. You may have something other than simple Hyothyroidism. I have a type that is linked to a pituitary disfunction called HPA -Hypothalmic Pituitary Axis. Check out the info. at

This offers information on different types of Hypo and Hyperthyroidism. I cannot reccommend any diets or supplements as I am also still struggling with overweight and other problems associated with the disease. I do advise to be very careful taking medications of any kind because this disorder tends to produce adverse side effects other folks do not experience. If you have adverse reactions to any medications, stop them immediately, contact your doctor and keep a written record of the medication and the reaction you had. You must be vigilant in monitoring and guarding your own health and not depend on the Medical Industry to do it for you. It is imperative that you be responsible and not intimidated by Professionals who often times know less than the patient , because we are forced to educate ourselves. Keep your own records as to what works for you and what doesn't, and don't be afraid to change doctors if you feel you are not being heard or helped. There are good doctors and there are trained specialists. Do some checking around , look on the internet for information , or ask for a consultation with an internist who could refer you or maybe even help you. Don't give up! And if you get help, be sure to share it with others who are as desperate as you. Will keep you in my prayers, and all the others like us.
