A family member of mine lost half her left lobe due to docs can't find a good test for cancer. was not cancer and her life has been changed for the worst. she was put on T4 replacement ONLY for years until school was done and she moved back home. Her doctor found her to not only have Hashimotos, but a gluten sensitivity *done by blood test, leaky gut, low iron, PCOS, and a host of others. She was immediately put on a gluten free diet as well as removed gluten in personal products. NO SUGAR. NO GRAINS. Ever. Went on T3 along with T4. Iodine. B12. She has now found she has the MTHFR gene mutation which she needs to take a special type of Vit B. She is doing great. Lost alot of weight. Finished three more years of college. Found a great job. But will NOT touch gluten. Ever. Barley, wheat, rye, etc. Never ever again. She does juices with organic produce. Goat yogurt/kefir. Still can't get her to eat Kimchi or sauerkraut (Raw) for those help with digestive probs. Best of luck and Health to you
If you are on a T4 only med please consider trying naturthroid or armour, it really has helped me and starting to slowly help turn things around for me. There is an adjustment period my body went through that took almost 2weeks I felt very odd but after that I've felt nothing short of MUCH better! The hardest part on losing weight with hypothyroidism and is learning how to eat, Our bodies really do process food/carbs differently and we like to hold onto more fat and bloat with water when we have to much sodium! I absolutely hate it I got so depressed, but once I started doing my research, tracking everything I ate and slowly doing small things to eat a good clean hypothyroidism healthy diet the weight is slowly but surely coming off! I of course am exercising to! I'm not saying you are not doing these things, from the looks of it you are doing great! Just do your research and use good common sense with what you read! Make SURE you are supplementing for essential fatty acids, Good fats are NOT bad! Our bodies need them and people with hypo need them even more.
Good Luck to you and everyone else battling this disease, like many others it really is all about advocating for yourself!
I was wondering if the diet pill was great success for you and where are you at now in your journey I am battling my weight problems and I take 75 mgs of Levo ( generic) thyroid med for hypo, which I just don't understand what I'm doing to gain all the weight plus can't loss ...really considering the diet pills if they would work for me I have the 30 mgs fastin on hand please any help greatly appreciate thanx...
I just recently found out by accident that I also need to eat high protein and low carb. Carbs make me exhausted. I have so much energy doing the high pro shakes twice a day and one sensible meal at night. I was told about premiere protein shakes by someone who had the sleeve done. I started doing them. If I get hungry I supplement with a Banana and some meat slices and cheese. I'm dropping weight fast. Mind you I've Been creeping up the scale since my thyroid gets worse. It helps my sugar cravings also. I do eat carbs but just at night.
Synthyroid is a synthetic. It isn't not effective if your needing "T4" increase. Armor Thyroid is a natural Thyroid Replacement. I had been taking Armor and the pharmacy ran out. I was give Lethvorthaxine ( not sure of the spelling). It's the other Synthetic Thyroid. I told the Dr. I felt I hadn't the energy as I had from the Natural Armor Thyroid. She said, "Oh, you can feel the difference? Your body must recognize that it doesn't allow T4 to be made. I called all the local pharmacies, only to find the manufacture hadn't made enough to go around. I called the manufacture "Forest Products" or "Forrest Pharmacy Products". They told me they had just sent a batch out. They told me which pharmacies had Armor Thyroid. I called my Dr. and she prescribed the medication for me. Also, if your stressing or under mega stress with thyroid problems.....realize, Cortisol levels are probably high. When our bodies are under stress, it doubles the fat cells. You may need to take a saliva test for Cortisol Levels. I cut all gluten from my diet. I lose 5lbs in 4 days. If I feel hungry for bread or treats, I mix 1 egg, 1 banana with a little Almond Milk & mix in Buckwheat until it's a pourable pancake batter. I heat up the pancakes with a little Coconut Oil, to give it a sweet taste. Now, I can bend down and buckle my shoes! Walking & Core Balance exercising is a must!

Hi, I was just wondering if this diet has a name where i can look it up?
well i take 120mcg of the same meds and it is mostly what you eat but always try to get in some excersize whether its 50 situps at night or 35 pushups in the morning but always be consistent
I have been hypothyroid for six years now. I have researched the topic repeatedly. I too have had problems with losing weight. I have tried several things but nothing really works. I stay away from soy as much as possible--everything seems to have soy in it, so it's pretty difficult to abstain 100%. Try to stay away from anything GMO. Eating 100% organic would be the ideal choice, but it is very expensive (unless you are single with a decent paying job). I cross-checked some foods that seem to work the best for those with hypothyroid (seaweed is a biggie; it's rich in iodine and any bell pepper/ lean meats/ carrots), but it's actually easier to list foods to stay away from. Anything in the cabbage family; this includes, but is not limited to, cabbage and kale. I love cabbage, especially in saurkraut form, so I eat very little of it, and if you love cole slaw, limit your consumption. Another food I love but limit is strawberries. They are full of goiterogens (sp?). Peaches, pears, sweet potatoes ( a "superfood" unfortunately), and spinach (another one of my favs) are on the limit your intake list. Raw broccoli and raw cauliflower also. I guess cooking the latter two takes out the goiterogenic properties. Turnips and beets are also unhealthy for the thyroid. I have been seeing a lot of coverage on the health benefits of kale. If you're hypothyroid, don't fall for it. Substitute it with romaine lettuce. I think it tastes better anyway. By searching "hypothyroid and food" or "foods harmful to hypothyroid" you can get a list of foods to eat and foods to limit or stay away from. The biggest one to stay away from is soy. Keep that in mind. Feeling fatigue and weight will always be an issue. I tried excersizing everyday and eating what I call tree bark and nothing happened. It was very disheartening. Oh, and stay away from any of those so-called weight-loss adds (pills, etc). If you have hypothyroid, they could harm your thyroid even more. Stick with whole grain products as opposed to whole wheat (it's better for your digestive system). I usually eat oatmeal (plain) or organic granola with or w/o Greek yogurt in the am. Everything else I watch (asa much as I can); remember, you are human and you only live once. You don't want to live your life around your thyroid. You will be miserable if you do that to yourself.
sorry but grapefruit, peaches, and strawberries are a no no for hypothyroidism. They fall into the same category as the no no veggies that were mentioned
I've been battling hypothyroidism for 20 years. If you don't have time to exercise, I recommend the South Beach Diet. You will lose weight, and you will find that you are eating more. I take 137mcg synthroid. I did this diet and lost 30 lbs. the first month. After that first month, I started exercising with this diet and lost a total of 80 lbs. It really does work, but you have to be dedicated and stick with it.
I am on 112 mcg of it and I to have issues on dropping the weight I do exercise a lot and that still hasn't dropped the weight..
Hello. I have had hypothyroidism for 17 years. For 15 of those years I was taking Levothyroxine and it was getting worse. I went to a naturopath who helped me find out that the foods that I was eating were causing the problem. I had food sensitivities. Once I stopped eating the foods that were not agreeing with my body, my medication was great reduced. I had the doctor prescribe me Dessicated thyroid, which is natural pig thyroid. I started taking 90 mg of dess thyroid, which is equivalent to Levothyroxine .137 mcg. Once I stopped eating the foods that I was allergic to, my dosage has gone from 90 mg to 22 mg. I would suggest going to a naturopath and seeing what foods you might be sensitive to and stop eating those foods for a short time and see what a difference it makes. I also went to an acupuncturist to get rid of my food allergies and slowly started to reintroduce the foods that I was sensitive to. It really worked.
Some of the foods on this list are not good for thyroid: peaches, strawberries, green peppers, pasta (any wheat food), turnips, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, etc. People who are reading this may think it is okay to eat. Readers: Please do your research and do not eat these foods if you have issues with your thyroid. Avoid soy based products, too.
Hello, what is that $400 prescription? I am in same boat as you, sick of it?
Lost in the UK.
