I would like to start exercising to lose some weight and i need a plan or something to motivate me. How do you stay motivated to carry out your weight loss plan? I want to try swimming away the fat.

you didn't mention how tall you are or how much you weigh - or how much weight you want to lose by swimming, but here are some general advices when it comes to motivation.
Write down your goals, but try to be realistic - you'll have a certain amount of time in your day for swimming, but you should also try thinking about starting with a healthier diet at the same time. And one thing many people who try to lose weight do wrong is - don't weigh yourself and expect change every morning. It simply takes time for your body to burn down the stored fat,

Swimming is a great way to lose fat.
If you like being in the water than swimming might just be the right thing to motivate you to lose fat.
Although diet is recommended , I wouldn't do it right off the bat. Actually , forget the word diet at this point. You need a plan. For start make it like this ( supposing you have access to the pool ).
If you are in the pool ,try going back and forth ( the longer side ) as many times as you can the first time. Now rest for 2 minutes and go again but this time less by one. If you did 15 laps the first time, go 14 after 2 minute break. Then, 13, 12, 11, 10. And so on till you reach 0. If at any moment you find that you can't do it because it's to hard for you, then reduce the number of laps.
