Get checked for Celiac Disease
I have been struggling with IBS now for around 6 years and reading all these posts it seems that you lot are all in the same boat; constipation, bloating, abdominal cramps, gas e.t.c i understand how bad it can be and not just paunful but dam inconvienent aswell.
The most effective treatments i have found are;
dieting - avoiding certain foods which are hard to digest and if you suffering from constipation take more high fibre foods aswell as loads of fruit and veg. if we all went on a strict diet of vegetables, fruits and healthy nurishing foods then most of us would not have a problem. Although eating like that everyday is impossible! so i try to include as much fruit and veg as i can manage.
I have also had food sensitivity testing which revealed i should stay away from dairy, peppers and paprika!? avoiding these foods has helped but i have no will power to completley avoid all these foods.
Colonics - THIS IS A MUST, the colonic itself helps clean out your bowels and you find that you have old stool in there which can lead to bacteria problems. The clinic i goto help me SO much and prescribe me herbal tablets which i take every day before meals. They mostly contain a mixture of herbs like fennel, rubarb, ginger, lobeila - they are so effective that when i take two with my main meal i will definiately go to the toilet before dinner the next day. They dont act like laxatives, they actually exercise your bowels over night - sounds mad i know but they have been a life saver for me.
Even though i have more control and relief over my IBS i still do struggle at times. Its like i can sort out the affect but i need to find the cause. at the moment im doing an elimination diet and tryign to pinpoint which food really upsets my system, so fingers crossed. i think the big problem for us all is there are so many factors that can make your IBS better or worse its just finding which to avoid and ones that help.
one last thing for the abdominal cramps ask your doctor for omerperazole. they sort me out everytime.

I have the same symptoms Dani. My GP thinks its IBS, but I'm taking Metronidazole (an anti-biotic) in case it's a bacterial infection.
Hello, I'm so glad I found this website. I have most of the symptoms I have been reading about in this post. I am waiting for my blood tests to come back to see if I have hypothyroidism, because I have all of those symptoms as well. I had a baby 10 months ago and have been unable to lose weight despite cardio exercise 35-45 minutes 7 days per week plus 3 days 20 minutes of strength training. For about a week I have increased my fiber drastically even though the last time I tried this I gave up because I was in so much pain. Today I am having horrible stomach pains (I assume gas), and extreme constipation. The constipation is MUCH worse than before I increased the fiber. How is this possible? Has anyone tried this and does it take more than a week to even itself out or something? I am so tired of feeling sick all the time! I'm glad I found all of you. What kind of doctor do you all go to to be diagnosed with IBS?
I cant believe I am reading this, and I want to share my story briefly.
After being on prozac for five years with some weight gain, I fairly suddenly started putting on belly fat, and my blood sugar seemed out of wack. having always been small this has been hard on me in many ways. because i am forty three and in some stages of peri menopause, i thought this would contribute. anyway, i gained about twelve pounds in two months on top of the twenty five i gained over the years from being on prozac. Here is what I did, so far. I have weaned myself off of prozac, I have not taken it for over two and a half months. I still have the bloating and water retention and hard fat in my middle. but I have done some research, and here is what I think has happened. the prozac has consistantly screwed with my seratonin and cortisone releases for over five years, and now its all out of whack. I think that the trigger of cortisone has caused the round the belly hard fat, concentrated right under my breasts. my water balance is out of whack, and my blood suger falls through the earth if i dont eat. but when i do, like others who have wrote, i cant eat any more than a handful. so, I quit prozac (slowly) after doing the research on the side effects long term. I have not lost any weight yet, but I have started taking 7 keto dhea and L-tyrosine. This has been a godsend for my depression, and I am hoping what is going to help repair my adredal and thyroid from the damage of the prozac, so hopefully I can help my metabolism again, and lose some belly fat. I am also taking flax seed oil with essential oils. my depression is being handled well with this, if I get enough rest and eat right. I also just got a prescription for zelnorm because irritable bowel with constipation, and started it yesterday. I am trying to stay positve and give my new approach a chance, although from what I have read about damage from antidepressants I may have been on it too long. I think the supplements working on my depression is a good sign my body can get right again. One more thing, I think the people who wrote that they are on zelnorm and antidepressants, will eventually still gain weight ..just my guess. I wish everyone luck with this ladies, and if my way works, I will post my results.

I am a 20 year old women and have recently been suffering with stomach pains, constipation, diarroea and a bloated feeling it began at the start of my period could it be to do with period pains or is it something different.
Ive found recently that im allergic to wheat. Increases my heart rate and i find myself out of breath. Drank a bottle of vodka at a party and ended up in hospital the next day because m heart wouldn't slow down. (the vodka was distilled from wheat) Anyway the week after i completely cut out wheat and that stopped the heart problems which was nice but the for the last 3 weeks ive been consanlty constapated! Ive never been constapated in my life and im 23. Normally very regular. Its horrible, really bad abdominal pains from trapped wind and heartburn. I've also found that i burp about three times as much as i used too?? strange. Also, and this may help anyone else with the abdominal pains, if i massage my intestines after meals and when they hurt it pushes the gas through and i dont have the pains. Nice trick. Still constapated tho. Ive even tried a diet of just veg and fruit. ate a whole box of prunes and made no difference whatsoever. The only way i can unblock is with laxatives. going to the doc tomorrow but very doubtful from what ive been reading that he'l be very helpful.
anyway thanks
anyway thanks
I think that Doctors simply call it IBS when they can find no other explanation. I have also had the same symptoms and gone through so much testing to no avail. I found that having acupuncture once a week for 4 weeks in a row seemed to help for about 6 months. I have not returned for more acupuncture because although it helps it is so pricey. I have also been tested for celiac disease but never got the results and the doctor seems to have lost them. Along with the other symptoms mentioned, I also deal with nausea. I want and need to find out what is wrong for both my daughter and I. She is 4 weeks old and already screaming in pain, bloating, going between constipation and diarrea and other problems that she may not be able to show. I think either it is something inherited or an allergy to something we both suffer from .
I've been reading all of your posts and I, too, have suffered from some of the same symptoms over the past 3 years. In addition to the intestinal problems I've had I've developed extreme fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, loss of libido and other symptoms lately. I had my hormones checked and my estrogen was really low. I've begun researching hormones and I would urge anyone who has these problems to read a book called It's my Ovaries, Stupid! by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet. She discusses problems such as IBS and how they can sometimes be caused by hormones. Even if you are on the pilll, especially one with a high progestin content. Doctors don't know enough about hormone problems in women and rarely check hormones. You need to take charge of your own health and force your doctor to treat you!
I feel for all of you-- if you are experiencing half the pain I have been experiencing for the past 2 1/2 months-- it's miserable. I've been out of work that long too-- and financially it's killing me but the pain is too bad-- the 1st month I was ill-- I could not even sit up for more than 5 or 10 min. at a time-- due to the pain and swelling-- I look like I'm 6 months pregnant-- but I've been tested and I'm not. I get massive pain after eating and go from normal to diarreha at the change of a hat. I've been on gluten free, fat free bland diets for weeks at a time-- it doesn't make a difference. I've had cat scans, ultra sounds, stool samples, tons of blood work, endoscopy, colonoscopy, breathing test -- you name it-- I've had it-- I'm on my 4 specialist-- who is a infectious disease specialist. I'm not imagining this-- I'm in pain-- riding in a car-- the movement kills me-- I'm nausaus 24/7 -- it never stops-- the pain levels flexuate-- but I can't relate it to why. They thought I had celiac disease then giarda disease now we are testing for other parasites. The only thing that they have found is that my small intestines are severly damaged-- severe infection and it's almost hollowed out-- like it's been eroded-- the docter said it's like a rough desert terrain. He said it's all raw with severe infection-- and let me tell you -he wasn't kidding-- I had a small sip of a beer once and I could feel it burning as it went down and honestly could feel it sitting in my stomach-- it burned so bad-- like alcohol over an open wound---- which the dr said is what is happening. He said as bad as my intestines are-- it would be like having all the skin off my arm and bare muscle and nerves-- and pouring salt and alcohol over them. I would like to communicate with others who are experiencing this issue-- maybe we can figure out a pattern or compare situations to help our medical teams find a cure for all of us-- I feel scared and I'm wasting my life away-- I hurt too much to do anything with my kids are my husband. Let's team together - I can be reached at froggyone24 at america on line.
I have had sympoms such as you describe for 10 years. The answer was Helicobacter Pylori ( a bacteria). Even though it didn't show on blood tests my doctor agree to try the antibiotic treatments and I feel great! You need to take two antibiotics together in a high dose.
I have read everyone's posts and I am amazed at how many people have the same symptoms with no anwsers. I don't know what to do. I have been to three doctors. One said I had pelvic inflammatory disease. The second said I was constipated and needed a stool softner. The third said maybe IBS and take Metamucil. I have also had a pelvic ultrasound, but nothing seems to be working. I am getting really depressed and frustrated. I am taking Celexa for my headaches which help for depression. I don't know maybe that is making it worse. Who knows?? I took an enema today. I got some relief, but not much. Help!!!???
Try looking at your diet you'd be surprised you might be intolerant of. remove high fat foods, highly processed foods, dairy, wheat etc. Go back to basics of rice and oats. keep a food diary and gradually introduce your regular diet-you may notice certain foods make you worse.
some homeopaths also offer an intolerance test-pain free! i took it and it matched up with things i had already identified. my list includes-dairy, caffine, chocolate, wheat and potatoes

When I read these posts, I couldn't believe that there were so many people in the same boat as me. I've lived with stomach bloating and abdominal cramping for over 3 years now. In that time, I've also gained a good 30 pounds. It seems that, no matter how much I exercise or how little I eat, I can't get my weight down. I've had every GI test in the book done and the doctors can't find anything wrong. My doctor has finally come to the conclusion that it's IBS. Honestly, I'm not so sure. I've had allergy-induced asthma for most of my life. I've asked my doctor if I can be tested for food allergies. I met with the specialist yesterday and she will be giving me all of the scratch tests next week. I'm still not so sure of the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance. Could I test negative on a scratch test for an allergy to lactose or gluten but still have an intolerance to them? Anyway, I'm at my wits-end with this. I'm as exaspertaed as many of you are. I need to find out what's wrong.
:-( I have just read every post on this topic and can't beleive what I'm reading. Jeez, I thought I was depressed before but now I'm in full blown dispar! Over the last 7 or 8 yrs now I've had to deal w/bouts of severe constipation, gas and abdominal pain but it was usually attributed to my menstral cycle. Heck, even intercourse was painful (most of the time.) Finally, after the birth of my son about three years ago, the pain got worse and worse. At first I'd only be in pain the first couple of days of my cycle but eventually the pain was so bad it would continue for weeks until I never felt normal.. My doctor was convinced it was due to endimitriosis and during the Lap in Nov. 06' he confirmed it. I was so elated to finally be on the path to recovery, or so I thought, when all of the sudden three months ago, the pain returned w/a vengance. I don't know what to do, it affects everything in my life and all the doctors I've seen and all the changes in diet I've tried (am still trying) are not working. Last week one of my doc's called and told my I have H-Pylori bacteria and that a two week regimine of previcid and strong antibiotics would get rid of it alohng w/the called Gastritis. Well, here I am, 7 days into the regamine and felling worse than when I started!!!! Anyway, I wish all of you good luck and hopefully, someday (soon) good health!
