You feel like there is a cord connecting your penis and your bellybutton because there is. The urachus connects the bellybutton to the bladder on top, and the bladder connects to the penis via the urethra.
As most have said, there are some easier remedies for this. If somebody really wanted a surgical solution, the same procedure used for removing a patent urachus might work, though I haven’t heard of it done for this condition.

I have had this for years , It might be a slight allergic reaction to coffee or chocolate , I have found the pain gets better when I drink more water and stay away from acidic foods . I think the bladder gets slightly irritated and acts up , drink plenty of water for a good month and stay hydrated.

I wrote on page 6 (J74etc....) about my theory of ‘Umbilical shock syndrome.’
I’m now seeing my pain as an internal abdominal injury...... from my traumatic birth....
What do people think of this theory?..

Hi,
I’m finding squeezing and then releasing my abdomen a real help. It strengthens and then relaxes the muscles around my navel.
There is also a meditation with this ‘squeeze-release’ technique called Sat Kriya that I’m going to try.
I’m learning to relax the area around my navel and the pain is easing..

Hi again, I’ve read a bit more about the meditation and I don’t think it’s all for me. But squeezing and releasing is helping
Thanks

Hi everyone. I've occasionally experienced this along with a strange belly button discharge. Look up urachal anomaly and check with your docs. You're welcome.

I have a pain that feels like a thread running from my naval to the head of my penis. This has been happening periodically over the years but is becoming more frequent and painful. Since recently looking on the Internet, this seems to be a fairly common occurrence with people and I can't imagine that a multitude of different conditions would cause such a specific symptom but I have yet to see a reliable cause or solution. Just to be clear, I don't have an UTI, it doesn't hurt when I pee and masterbating (which someone said was a 100% guaranteed solution) doesn't help.

Like other people have posted on this thread, i agree 100% that it’s a urachal remnant. And the good news is that you can get it removed by a surgeon. Have spoke to many other ppl with the exact same symptoms who also had theirs removed and have not had the pain since, like me. Assuming your pain is the same, I really believe it is the culprit! The problem is that even if nothing shows up on scans or tests, and it’s looks “normal”, it can still be the culprit! It can just be tight or oddly tethered. So my advice is to consult a good urologist or surgeon and ask for it to be removed even if the tests look normal! Show them these threads and relevant articles on the topic. I suggest you read the thread “sharp pulling pain on belly button part 2” thread on steadyhealth as all the info is there in the more recent posts. Honestly, this operation changed my life. I really hope this helps you! Also a note that I am not a medical professional so always consult your doctor first, but this is my advice based on my personal experience and those of others.

I just cleaned some crud from my belly button with a qtip and alcohol. A pain sensation started from the belly button to the penis. I have had burning while peeing for some time, but this new sensation made me wonder if there was something going on involving the urachus. I am taking tamsulosin for my getting up to pee several times nightly. I have had a prostate biopsy which was negative. The belly button-penis discomfort made me wonder if something unexpected was going on. Any thoughts?FACE

Jon74 writing again. I wrote about my theory of umbilical shock back on page 6 and I wish to add some more. I had read about early cord clamping, and admit that I came up with the name Umbilical Shock Syndrome and that it is not a recognised name or diagnosis. Sorry for any confusion! I was younger and big headed. But I still believe in my theory about my mystery navel and abdominal pain being related to my traumatic birth. My umbilical cord was clamped instantly at birth and I believe I received a shock which caused internal trauma. My mother has confirmed that I was extremely distressed for hours and the chord was clamped instantly as the staff were worried that my mother was going to faint. I believe the scaring, seen during surgery, that another post referred to in the area of the urachus was potentially due to this birth shock.
