My GF had a tummy Tuck + Lipo surgery about a year ago. After a couple of months, her breath started to smell and started coughing. X-ray doesn't show anything. The guess was alergy so she tried inhealers. After a couple of days, she got much better but it came back again (while she was on inhealer). I believe this is something related to the surgery from the first day since the smell of her breath is exact same as the smell of the drainage after her surgery. Any thoughts?

Hello, was a syringe used to remove the liquid until it eventually drained by itself and were you wearing a compression garment the whole time? Thanks

thank you for your post. i had a tummy tuck almost 2 years ago. less than 6 months after it i developed an infection in my stomach, right beneath the belly button. i was put on antibiotics and had surgery to fix my umbillical cord. now, 2 years after the TT and 1 yr 5 months after the second surgery my stomach is swelling again. its only a day since i got put on antibiotics but its flaring up like hell. i've gone from mild pain to major pain and my belly button has gone from an innie to an outie, i'm seeing black beneath my skin and the size of the 'infected rock like lump' has gone from just around the edges of my belly button to the size of a quarter. the doctor did say it would be worse today but then start to recede with a day or two . . but having read your post if i'm not better in 12 hours (in the morning) i'm going back and insisting they do blood work

How soon after you form a seroma will it start to form a scar tissue to a point of needing surgery to remove it?

I recently had surgery to remove a large AVM caused aneurysm from my pelvis. Post surgery, I had developed a seroma with about 500 cc of fluid. I went back to the hospital and spent over a week there with a drain put in. The radiologist injected Betadine for a few days and then pulled the drain when the output was less than 10 cc a day. It's been about three weeks and the seroma has filled back up. Since its in my pelvis it pushes against my bladder and causes severe pain during urination. So yesterday I went back to the hospital and had another drain put in. I was sent home this time with the drain. Hopefully the Betadine treatment will work this time. The radiologist said the seroma needs to collapse do the walls stick together and scar so that it stops filling back up. Can someone assure me that this will eventually end? I'm feeling a little discouraged by this ordeal. Thanks.

Thank you for your clear and concise details. It has been 6 years...yes years and I too are now dealing with the same. I have been referred to a hospital as I semi retired and could no longer afford private health insurance. My absence has not surfaced but is really painful and red as you described, giving high temps and a general feeling of wellness. I take antibiotics every time it becomes inflamed and am on a waiting list on the public list. I hope this won't take too long before as I am concerned it will erupt externally. As a result of your post I will ensure to not leave this for a moment and persist relentlessly for surgery to have this removed asap. Fingers crossed with the public system?

I’m 4 weeks post op today with drain still in producing about 100cc a day. My lower abdomen is really swollen and a seroma over my belly button has been drained 3x to date. At what time did you get your drains removed and do you have any advice? Thank you

I had a Fluer de Lis Tummy Tuck (extended tummy tuck) which is basically an anchor incision. At my 4 week mark I was feeling great but noticed a little wave pool in my lower abdomen and mons (my pubic area). The doc said I may have fluid build up and no biggie, so he removed the scab at the middle of the anchor incision, the largest scab and only one left.

I started gushing fluid, pink cloudy fluid. After a couple minutes of digging and pulling out dead fat and me screaming in pain, he finally gave me lidocaine to numb me. He packed antibiotic thread and 4x4s over the golf ball size hole looking into my abdomen. Taped me down, prescribed me antibiotics and told me to come back tomorrow.

I've been going for 3 days to the office and am changing my own dressing at home (no internal antibiotic string) and have to go back in on Monday. The pain has become excruciating, i cant sleep because it hurts so bad. He gave me extra pain meds but it does nothing!!! However I've broken my fever (so is that a plus?).

I don't know what to do and I'm exhausted, I'm so sad that I'm crying all the time, I just want the pain to stop.

I'm so glad other people have experienced thus cause I'm so freaked out and feel so alone.

Hello, guest.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It sounds like a difficult and painful experience. If you're feeling this degree of discomfort and pain, and especially if you had a fever, it's crucial to get appropriate medical attention. Here are some things to consider:

If you are unsure about the treatment you're receiving or if you feel that your concerns aren't being adequately addressed, consider seeking a second opinion from another plastic surgeon or wound care specialist. They may provide different insights or treatment recommendations.

Fever, increased pain, and discharge could be signs of an infection. While you mentioned the fever broke, which can be a good sign, it's essential to monitor your symptoms closely and communicate with your surgeon. If the symptoms worsen or you develop new symptoms, consider visiting an emergency room.

If your pain isn't being managed well, it might be helpful to discuss with a pain management specialist who can offer specialized advice and treatment options for managing your pain.

Continue to closely follow up with your surgeon as recommended. If you believe the treatment isn't effective or your symptoms worsen, don't hesitate to advocate for yourself and your health.

Hope you will recover soon.
