Don't let the nursing cultists make you feel guilty- you are a fully functioning woman and it sounds to me like you're a darn good mommy as well. Plenty of babies have been bottle fed! It's ridiculous how people get so into something where there is really no research or statistic s to support it- plus they are so rigid- unwilling to accept that we are all different with different circumstances.
Do your best- sounds like you are.
I have been on and off adderall XR since Highschool. I went off it with my first son the second I found out I was pregnant. No issues with him at all. I wasn't on it when I got pregnant with my 2nd son, he turned out to Aspergers. And I took it with my 3rd son, stopped during the first trimester then began again and took it throughout. Hes 18 months and totally normal. Im pregnant with my fourth. 5 weeks and im still taking it, but I am working on lowering my dose. Although since my last pregnancy I have developed some thyroid issues and I have already begun to have HORRIBLE fatigue (before trying to lower my dose) I don't know how I will function without it. I DO RECOMMEND weaning yourself off it slowly in the last trimester if you want to breast feed. I went off cold turkey the second I had him and it was pure tourtue to recover from 27 hours of labor, a c-section and then ADDERALL withdrawls. that was pure evil!! ahhhh
I am freaking out because I am 9 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and have been taking Adderall XR (30 mg-2x's per day after tapering down tapered down from 50 mg-2x's per day...and it has NOT been easy) and Strattera (40 mg-1x per day). I have been to see my OB-GYN and I told her that I am still taking the Adderall XR and Strattera, but I have not been to see my psychiatrist (the prescribing doctor) since I have been pregnant. My OB-GYN said that while she doesn't want me to take it if I don't have to, she wants me to be funtional. I have an appointment next week and I am very nervous that my psych. is going to discontinue the Rx until after I have the baby (so like 7 months). If that happens I am not sure what I will do. Does anyone know whether this may be the case, and if so, what I can do?
Also, I read somewhere that doctors in Ohio will not prescribe Adderall XR to women that are pregnant. Does anyone know whether ornot that is true?
Thanks so much for any responses. I don't know what I would do without this site. :-)
I don't know about Ohio, but my OBGYN was the one that was OK with it. He said that it was a drug that was a class C and that they had to weigh me being able to function against the risks (which he doesnt know of any). Like I was saying in my post, my son came out healthy as a horse. My psych was more afraid than my OBGYN, but he sent a signed paper saying he thought it was OK and they were OK with it. My new Psych is also OK with it too. Im on 30 mg XR. You can stress to your doc, (either of them) that you are actively looking for research on it, and that you know you wont be able to function without the adderall (I don't know about strattera)
;( so ill keep it short this time
I have a 15 mo old - brilliant adorable little man - was on addral for te first 4 mo of gestation .
He is low muscle tone - gets physical therapy
Intellectually and physicaly otherwise perfect . He is tall and thin an diff the charts verbally .
Adderall is prescription methamphetamine. Your body reacts to it the same way as meth. Just quit taking it asap and be as healthy as possible. But as long as your not taking it all day every day in excess you will be fine. Look up effects of methamphetamine use in early pregnancy, Im sure there has been more studies on that than the brand name "Adderall"

I guess we could all benefit from a more in-depth description of what your life was like or is like without Adderall- which symptoms are the ones that are the most difficult ones.
Could you get rid of Strattera and change your Adderall to short- acting for the time of day that you simply must have medication support?
Make the docs talk to each other and do the work of managing a pregnancy that is 'a little' different from the norm. Seems to me- and I am not a physician but a mental health administrator for children in long- and short term institutions, mother of two ADHD young adults- treated throughout their lives- and I have taken Adderall for 25 years. My daughter has a fantastic job and NEEDS HER MEDS to do it and keep it- but she also wants a baby.
There is without a doubt some kind of twisted moral backlash in this country and using psychostimulants and yet- they are so often the difference between reaching your full potential and/or a lifetime of failure, low self esteem and dependency upon illegal substances.
Doctors who won't conscientiously work to weigh benefits and risks over a broader spectrum are more concerned with their own pocketbooks etc. You are a special case- find the most considerate and informed. Best I can say good luck to you.
My own feeling is that weight- loss and improper nutrition are likely the greatest fears- but I'm certainly not informed or licensed to speak to that.
are you in WA state - if so can you recommend a physician / obgyn im wanting to be on a low dose of adderall - im about out of my 1 st trimester and i have been more stressed and not healthy off it -
Adderall is prescription amphetamine, not methamphetamine. Although similar and often grouped together, meth is much, much stronger and is illegal. Below is a good resource that explains this.

Adderall is NOT the same as methamphetamine. It is not even close. Your body does not respond to Adderall the same as it would to the chemicals that are in things such as "Drain-o" among the other toxic c**p idiots make meth out of. You should look up how exactly methamphetamine is made to get a really good layperson's idea of how different they are! If you were to look up the effects of "methamphetamine in early pregnancy" vs "D-amphetamine salts aka Adderall in early pregnancy" the results would be very very different! One is a Class C drug that is produced under strict guidelines and is in the same category as Tylenol (which is considered "safe" for pregnant women to take), and the other is an illegal drug that is manufactured by your local druggie from whatever they can get their hands on! Please do not post information that you do not know as facts. That is very very irresponsible and disrespectful towards others.
Ok...I am trying to respond to the above comment made by "balletteacher / RattleOn.

of course you don't take adderll or any other drug for thst matter!!!! omg....these pooe children if they even do make it....
no dummy!! use your brain....*no......meds while pregnant. poor little babies...:(
Do you think its less harmful during pregnancy and breastfeeding if you're only taking 15mg XR per day? Especially since I plan on breastfeeding for a long time. Did you continue to take it while breastfeeding?
My friend just gave birth to her third baby.... she was taking 20mg per day as prescribed by her doctor.... the baby came out with a scrotum and male inside organs, and a vagina - no penis.... Whoever believes its still ok to take this medication is clearly out of their mind! and their doctors are too!
