I'm 15 and I love looking for dandruff! I started when I was about 12. I do it at school but I make sure no one is watching, I'm scared they'd thing I had lice or didn't wash my hair. I'm always in the bathroom looking at my hair & scalp examining my hair and looking for flakes. I don't let my mom touch my hair because she'd totally freak out. She doesn't know about my addiction to it. I have used head & shoulders before and it did work, it did take away the dandruff.. but its just such a habit I can't stop picking at my scalp which causes more dandruff. I love finding dandruff. Its so weird, but people have no idea how addicting it is!

Please never begin this habit! I started at shool and now am 38 and am very embarrassed by it, I have been trying hard to stop with only moderate success. One thing that some people might not be realizing is that the scratching might be the main cause of there dandroff problem. Over time, trying not to look for dandruff anymore but unable to stop bringing my hand to scratch, I ended up scratching specific areas so badly that my head bleeds. And it used to hurt when I was taking my shower, and made me feel like sh*t. Now I cut my nails really short every day (which hurt) and have a short air cut and I manage to scratch just a little bit, but its alsays there, so stupid, but impossible to completely stop doing it. I hate it! I wish there was a cure.

just make sure you dont create scabs, i had my hair cut last week and my hairdresser back combed my hair using a metal comb, she caught a scab and it was whipped off. My good did i jump!! it bled a bit and then crusted over and i now keep re picking it.

I knew I wasn't the only one. I'm 15 now and it started when I was 13. I would scratch my head to the point of bleeding and I would see the huge pile of dandriff on my black desk and feel excited - a weird excitement...That's when I knew I had a problem and had to see a doctor. The scratching stopped until last year where it just naturally would fall out and now I run my hand through my hair all the time to see the flakes fall. (I have naturally soft nice hair, and style it like Justin Bieber)

Wow, I can't believe how many people do this. I started when I was a kid. I wanted to be a hairdresser so I messed around with my mom and dad's hair. When I saw my first dandruff I just had to scrape it away. It became an addiction. One time when I was older I wanted to style my sister in laws hair. I ran a comb down the center to part it and wow she had the biggest flakes. I had to stay cool and pretend I didn't see them but I was so excited I could have died not being able to scrape. Now at over 50 years of age I have scalp psoriasis and I am having a blast! I spray a steroid liquid on my scalp and leave it on overnight and by morning I go to town scraping! It loosens the flakes and they scrape off nicely. In 2 days it is all back. I also take a brush to my scalp bend forward and scrape with the brush and just love to watch the snow fall. It is and will always be amazing to me! Thank you all for sharing I feel much better about it.

I'm 15 and i think i started to do this very same thing when i was about 9. there were points when i thought this had to be bad for me, but then i convince myself it was good because i was getting dead skin off of me. i continued to do this using dark clothing to catch it all. i started cutting into my scalp with my nails when there was no dandruff left. then i looked it up on youtube and found a woman that does this to cope with her trichotillomania. i'm just really scared now, but i cant stop

Has anyone ever took a photo of dandruff falling  in a dark room??  The flash of the camera reflects off the dandruff particles and make what look like ghostly orbs!!   Thought id share this being Halloween!!!

I also scratch my head a lot! I try to wear hats all the time to keep me from scratching. But at the end of the day, I take the hat off and scratch away!

So annoying! My relatives are always complaining how it's so rude and they ask me if I do it in front of my friends.
