Omg, I'm so glad I'm not alone on this. I'm a 13 year old girl and I think I've been doing this since I was 11. I don't remember why I started doing it, but I do it at least once a week now, sometimes not even realizing I'm doing it. It's probably an OCD thing, and I do suffer from anxiety & I'm stressed out a lot. Sometimes it gets to the point where my scalp will bleed. I feel really bad after I do it, like really disgusting.I hate doing it, and I don't want to be bald. I hope some doctors will look into this issue, I bet this is some sort of disorder like trich.

I collect my dandruff in pages of car mags, i often do the snow shower thing over photos of dark coloured cars, i found a mag with dandruff on a couple of pages from 2004, i added a fresh lot today and noticed a difference in shade of white as the 8 year old flakes were more of a grey white than todays fresh fall, The Geeze may say we have a problem but we dont harm anyone unlike smokers do. Yes its an addiction and i find it calming if being honest, May the flakes continue i say!!

Wow, it's kind of comforting to know I'm not the only one who does this. I'm a 22 year old female and I've been doing it for several years now... I used to do it around other people but now only do it when I'm alone cause my family kept telling me to stop. I've taken a few things for dandruff but none of them really help.

1. When did the habit start? -sometime around middle school I think
2. Did you move around a lot as a kid or teenager? no
3. Do you experience anxiety or depression? not that much when I started but now, yes
4. Do you feel the dandruff relieves stress? I do it more when I'm stressed out so I think so
5. Do you do it even when there is no itch? yes
6. Do you feel sad when you can't find any? a little, I really like finding big ones

As i said earlier i collect my dandruff in car mag pages, the contrast between a dark coloured car in a photo covered with specs of dandruff is a great sight, i also shake my hair in a darkened room and take a photo of the falling dandruff, this shows up as spooky looking orbs in the photo. JJ above, you sound like my perfect woman!! A dating site for dandruff lovers.... now theres an idea!!

To the person who says they also pluck different hairs, including pubic hairs - i do the exact same thing in addition to the dandruff thing!  I pluck my pubic hair pretty often actually. i never get all of it cuz it gets painful but I hate having hair down there, even when its short from shaving, and sometimes i get a good patch out of the top.  it really is such a waste of time though :/ i cant believe there are so many people out there who, like me, scratch their head, flick the white stuff, and enjoy picking flakes out of their hair, especially the big ones.  I also pick at my back acne like someone else here said they do.  I guess it might be a syptom of OCD but to me it's like an addiction - i think that human beings actually really like picking things, I dont know what it is but there are soo many people who like picking things, i don't think it's just coincidence.  I actually naturally have like NO dandruff, but ive found this habit to be so satisfying, and as someone else said, I don't know if i even really want to stop it because i like it so much.  just thinking about it makes me dream of big, white flakes!

I honestly feel amazing knowing that there are people like me. I've been scratching for at least 10 years (I'm 18 now). A couple years ago my sister had lice. She had to use a comb with sharp metal points to get the lice out. I stole it and ever since then I use it to get off the dandruff. I think it's gross and a bad habit but I can't stop scratching and I don't want to! Sometimes I go a day without taking a shower just to let it pile up, and they I go crazy and try to get it all off.

Think its a common thing, just that not many admit to it?? the arm on my sofa is speckled with dandruff, my laptop is too and i love seeing the flakes lodged between the keys. Has anyone tried taking a photo of falling flakes in a dark room???? The image you get when the flash goes off is so spooky, instant orbs!! The more dandruff in my hair the more orbs!

Oh la la, finally, I met my siblings in dandruff scratching . I am a 45 years old Asian female and I got this thing since I was twenty something. I did went for a professional help once. Thing is I travel a lot and I just can't wash my hair daily, so, tadaaa, it still gets me once in a while. But most of the time I can get rid of this problem by washing my hair with mild shampoo on daily basis. .

I have this habit too. I'm a girl with long black hair which sucks because the flakes are very visible and I always find myself scratching my head if my hands are free. The things that work for me are purposely doing things in a way that keeps both my hands occupied, or telling a friend to point it out to me whenever I start doing it. A double helping of conditioner sometimes helps to stop it itching so much for me too....

I also find if I run my fingertips through my hair and shake the flakes out instead of digging with my nails, it still feels satisfying in a way, but it isn't damaging my scalp quite as much.

Its a great feeling, i love going through my hair with my fingertips as the person said above. Im sat writing this on my laptop and my chair arm surface is full of dandruff specs. This morning i was sat behind a old bloke on the bus with greasy hair that was receding and i could see he had a dandruff problem and i was so tempted to pick at his scalp and remove them. Id so much like to be a hairdresser.

I would do it because I think I thought that eventually I would get all of the flakes off - like sweeping the floor. But the more I "swept" the more flakes I would get. It was frustrating and embarassing. Also it was unpredictable when it would be really bad. What helped me was not shampoos but braggs apple cider vinegar right on my head. It also helps my dry lips too.
