I am allergic to Acrylates (the monomer used in acrylic nails). Acrylates were named Allergen of the Year in 2012 because they are now being put into more and more consumer products. Everything from hand sanitizers to baby shampoo!

The same thing happens to me whenever I would get acrylics. It popped up out of nowhere and got worse each time I tried. I tried gel manicures and receive the same reaction. I'm not sure what is the allergen but I tend to stead clear these days cause it's just so unbearable.

I have the same reaction after years of wearing them too. they swell and itch like crazy but it doesn't start for several hours. I have the same reaction to any form of artificial nails and also the shellac polish that lasts so long and looks so beautiful. I have thought it was the the product they brush on to make the nail bond to the artificial nail or polish.

What do you mean by liquid plastics?

Has anyone had a reaction on their face, but NOT their hands?? I'm a nail tech, and have been for approximately 2 years. All of a sudden I got a reaction on my eyelids where they became irritated initially. I didn't think anything of it. The second time, the eyelid became quite swollen and red (still predominantly one, but a bit on the other). The THIRD time (I'm still recovering from this one) both eyelids and centre of my face right down to top lip. Red, dry flaky skin, almost a burn on the eyelids. It's been excrutiatingly painful and I'm on my 3rd week now. In reading up on acrylate allergies I think this is what it is but unfortunately it will be months before I can see a dermatolist then allergist. It seems the 'norm' is to have sore fingers. I guess I'm unique :/

Probably the glue they used that your allergic to, not abnormal for people to be allergic to certain glue types.

I have not worn acrylic nails for years because of an allergic reaction. Within hours of getting them my harsh burning even after washing them. Within in a week I fingers are swollen and I have blisters around my nails. Is gets to the point where I either have to bust the blisters or have my doctor prescribe me something. I want to get nails again but I don't want to go through the pain. I want to try sns nails but I'm not sure if it is safe for me.

I also get an allergic reaction. My skin burns, itches and peels. My fingers are very tender to touch. Even if I bump the tip on something man it hurts. I believe it's the Primer. As soon as they put it on my fingers start burning. There has to be an alternate to primer.

I have the same reactions and sorry to say but the same reaction happens with bio gel nails.

That is not true and you are giving people the wrong information. Shellac DOES have acrylates in!
