I gave birth to my son 6 weeks ago, and then the pains started about 2 weeks after he was born, and can I just say, the pain is honestly worse than childbirth! I've been to the hospital Multiple times, had ultrasound after ultrasound and blood test after blood test. As it turns out somehow my gallstone problem is genetic, my mum is more prone to gallstones and has had them in the past and her parents (my grandparents) have both had their gallbladders removed.
Anyway, when the pains first started, they were only very mild, I found if I jumped in the shower the pains would ease. The first night that they were really bad, it was the middle of the night! I jumped in the shower and even that didn't work, I tried everything to get the pain to stop, and usually I have a high pain tolerance, but I cried and cried because I was in so much agony, my partner woke and we jumped straight in the car and headed to the hospital. They gave me panadene forte, and as I found out later on panadene forte contains kodine and apparently that makes the pain worse... Which it did!
My attacks last anywhere between 4-6 hours, anyhow, a friend of mine recommended quickeze but I'm unsure whether that will help :/

Drink a concoction mix of 1/2 cup water with 3 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Works for me Every Single Time. Even cleared up my acne. I just had that feeling start up late tonight. It's been awhile since I've had to deal with this. But it was my birthday and we went to the chinese buffet. Happy Birthday to me. The sooner you catch it the faster this works. But it should work within 30 min.

That is a very common and proven reason that a person would develop gallstones. Her research probably got her that information. Just breath....

I will NEVER understand why ER docs keep prescribing Morphine, Fentanyl etc when they know or suspect you are having a gallbladder attack. Those drugs are CONSTRICTORS--they actually make your pain worse as they cause your bile duct to clamp down on the stone. My husband was rushed to the ER with unbearable pain in his middle upper abdomen and once they cleared his heart and learned that he had already had his gallbladder removed over 20 years ago they gave him Dilaudid and it stopped the pain immediately. Hours later after he was admitted they gave him Morphine and his pain went through the roof--when I asked about the Dilaudid and reminded them that it eased his pain tremendously just 6 hours earlier they treated us like we were a couple of drug-seeking addicts! Another round of Morphine a few hours later and he was pacing the room like a caged animal--he could only get some relief by standing in the shower and letting the hot water pound on his stomach. A few more hours later and they give him Fentanyl and the pain keeps getting worse. Finally after an entire day of this (lack of) care they gave him the Dilaudid and then he felt INSTANT relief, but then something else happened--I looked up at him abut 10 seconds after he was given the injection he was covered in flop sweat--so much it looked like someone had turned the hose on him--and NOT BREATHING! I slammed on the call button and ran out into the hall to get a nurse. After that I don't know what happened. Someone escorted me down the hall to a waiting room and I could hear them call a code over the PA and all of these doctors and nurses came running from everywhere with a crash cart and everything. Luckily whatever they did to bring him back worked and then these GENIUSES decided that my husband must be "allergic" to these drugs?!?! So the next day they gave him an Endoscopy--FULLY AWAKE with no anesthesia at all--not even the numbing spray for the back of his throat. They literally tied his hands to the rails of the bed so that he wouldn't reflexively fight the scope going down his throat. I swear just THINKING abut that gives me PTSD! Ultimately, the endoscopy lead to the discovery of a stone in his bile duct (apparently this happens to some people many years after they have had their gallbladders removed) and luckily it was removed WITH anesthesia! When he got back to work he was talking to some of his customers who are doctors and before he had even told much of his story they all said that the fact that the morphine didn't work should have been the #1 clue to the doctors and the nurses that some sort of stone was involved. Lesson learned: SPEAK UP FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES! Doctors and nurses are just people--they are mostly awesome--but they do miss things and make mistakes.

I also found medication very helpful. My Dr. Prescribed 10 mg. Morphine IV. Then let me go home until Mon. Rather than admit me until Monday. Now I have to get in for surgery on Monday. Much rather be home

Hi! I've had gallbladder attacks since I was twelve (20 now) and I was diagnosed two days ago with gallstones! I have surgery scheduled to have it removed completely. But this morning I suffered another very bad attack and needed quick relief. I took 3 ibuprofen and took a hot shower and pain was gone immediately! I've heard of a hot shower working, but I only tried it because I was covered in chills and just wanted to get warm. But it made the pain go away almost instantly. Now I can finally get some sleep!

I agree with you hot shower is the best way to go. I had 3 gallstone attack and today 11/19/16 I had the attack and it wasn't nice. I took a hot shower and stayed in the shower until the pain went away. Question do you have to ask the doctor if is ok to take muscle relaxer?

Benadryl. Literally an answer to prayer. Will stop an attack.

Heat, ibuprofen and warm apple juice. Take the at the onset or ASAP. Warm compress should be over the gallbladder area and possibly the back. That seems to work the best for me. You may also drink lemon juice with a little water but the water should be warm, not cold or hot.

I have a theory -- never seen this in any website or heard it from a doctor so, as they say, your mileage may vary. But my worst attacks have come after eating a late meal with a moderate amount of fat and going to bed quickly. My theory is that there is something in digesting while lying down that triggers the worst attacks (last one was 14 hours). So now I'm resolved to eat early and be active, or at least sit up, for a few hours before heading to bed. For what it's worth I have a single gallstone of 1.9 cm diameter--fortunately to be removed in a month.
