Alleviating Pain During Gallbladder Attack

Mine started when I was about 23 and I'm 30 now. You eventually learn your triggers and can go months without one. But in my case sometimes you've gone months without one and get cocky and eat that dang McD's hamburger...and here I am hour 3 of absolute regret lol.

I don’t know if this is an attack, but I do have pain in my chest I do have gallstones from being unhealthy I admit that. I had this pain for 2 hours now and nothing is helping!

Im really saddened to see this as I only waited 2 weeks from when I saw the surgeon. Maybe it has to do with what state you are in...Im in Melbourne.

Acetaminophen and ibuprofen actually make it worse and in many cases are the cause of attacks, ask any doctor (read the label, that's why you're only supposed to take so many in a day). Water helps thin out the sludge and help your gallbladder pass it.

29 year old male, having the attacks for about 4 years now. Initially started as once every 6 months, often cured by drinking straight lemon juice or after I got sick (which i do nearly every time). But as the years have gone on, it’s become more frequent. Currently on a 4 in 3 weeks (two in the last 24 hours) streak. Can’t say I’m very healthy or active so that’s the cause no doubt, my mother had her gallbladder removed too. This attack seems to have been triggered by eating arepa’s (Colombian breakfast food that is fried), lesson learned. Had an abdominal scan done last week which confirmed it and said I’d have to get it removed. Have a surgical consult next Wednesday, hopefully they agree. Then it will just be a case of seeing does my insurance cover the procedure (I’m in Ireland) or whether I have to go public which is over a years waiting list. Although I’m getting nervous now reading all of the constant diarrhea etc stories, will have to do more research. Can’t say I’ve found a quick cure to relieve the pain during an attack. I tend to just pace around In a circle, but I think that just helps to distract me. Hot water bottles are good, lemon juice can help, and the ‘downward facing dog’ type positions seem to help me. Has anyone any actual post-surgery experience they can share? Or are people just googling it and of course only the bad experiences get shared? Good luck to all currently suffering, I feel your pain x

Hang in there. I had gallbladder attacks since 1997 (age 12) and no doctors could tell my mother and I what was wrong. I have had many incorrect diagnosis over the years. I was just recently diagnosed correctly due to infection and being extremely sick during an ER visit. It will be difficult and lots of pain that will feel like labor pain all 9 months, but the end result will be a beautiful baby. I went through this twice before having a tubal because I couldn't stand the pain and Doctors couldn't tell me what was wrong. After the baby is born I would recommend having the surgery to remove the gall bladder its not worth the pain and constant being sick which takes away your precious time and energy to play and take trips with your new bundle of joy. I missed on so much and now my kids are grown. Good Luck!!!

I had my gall bladder removed years ago and did not have any problems afterwards.
