I had crab cakes about a year ago and was up all night long with stomach cramps. I am very careful to ask if they have any shrimp or shrimp stock in them before I eat them. I have be allergic to shrimp since I was young. I eat crab, oyster, scallops, mussels and I have eaten lobster (but it's been awhile). We are going to Maine this summer and I want to try Lobster again but am scared to try. What's your thought?
Growing up, I was able to eat crabs or shrimps just fine until one day in my early teenage yrs. I got this nasty allergic reaction (shrimps first, then later crabs when that opportunity presented itself) where my whole mouth would itch like getting stabbed by hundreds of needles & down my throat.
Never really knew why or how that came about, but never put it to the test again... I'm assuming lobsters would be the same for me as well even though I never had the chance to eat one for decades since the original incident with the shrimps/crabs.
When I was almost 30 yrs. of age, I was able to discover that I had gluten sensitivity with the help of online communities by surfing for answers since I had enough of all the c**p that was happening to my health & decided that enough was enough! I suffered for about 20 yrs. with that allergy from around 9 yrs. of age.
Since then, I've been on a complete gluten-free diet & have not looked back... thank goodness!
Whether my allergy to crabs/shrimps had anything to do with gluten sensitivity is hard for me to know, but I always thought that it had something to do with it since it came about after the fact that I suffered gluten issues with my health first, chronologically.

I have swelling on my penis, and it's itchy. What can it be? Both times that happened, it has happened when I have eaten shrimp. Is this an allergic reaction?
