I find trazodone to be an excellent sleep aid when required. It's unfortunate that some of you find it addictive. Are you on any other meds?
Are you pregnant ?

Hi i have been taking trazodone for almost a year now. I suffer from mild depression and bigtime insomnia ( i was sleeping 2 hours a night) my doctor put me on trazodone 100mg night and i have slept well everynight since then. It has been a lifesaver for me, i didnt think i would ever sleep again until i started on this wonder drug. Good luck .
PLS HELP ME where from i buy trazodone 100mg IN MUMBAI (INDIA)....pls help urgent
I totally agree.
I started this drug last night, I did sleep but I had such a dry mouth I couldn't even swallow this morning when I woke up! I have started on 50mg and must contact my doc on Friday and let her know if she must increase the dose. If it makes me gain ANY weight I will be really mad at my doc, not good for my OCD!!!
I've taken this for sleep for a while and I did gain weight!! actually quite a bit of weight rather quickly!!,, but others taking it dont seem to have gained weight, or at least they havent mentioned it!. My sister was on it & stopped taking it because she was gaining weight with it as well. it did help me sleep at first, But after a while it wasnt helping me any longer. I would just watch and see what it does for You, YOU may not gain any weight, and if it helps You to sleep, Great!!. I did have a bought with the dry mouth and dry cough too, I used cough drops at night. I dont take it anymore because it stopped working for me and the weight issue.
yes i have been for the past week anf been sleeping like a baby..
Yes, I have been awake for 3 days. So i am not taking them anymore
I have been taking trazodone for 15 years or more, it has helped me a great deal and I have had no bad effects from it at all. I take 100 mg per night, when I was heavier (lost 65 lbs in past year an half) the trazodone did not work as well and I had some issues with sleeping only two hours a night, the weight loss has changed the whole picture. I am 65 year old man and had anxious issues till my doctor prescribed this drug. I feel for me it is a God send....
That is exactly what happens to me when I go off. Did you finally begin to sleep better ? I went back on.
I have Fibromyalgia, which causes major sleep disturbance...my Rheumatologist just prescribed Trazodone 50mg 2 days ago. One pill is all it took! At first, I noticed a slightly increased heart rate (and likely higher blood pressure.) Within a couple of hours though, I felt drowsiness like I have only experienced right before being operated on. This is a powerful drug & I'm so thankful my doctor decided to try it on me. Since it was SO strong, I tried 25mg the 2nd night...I wasn't drowsy enough, so I added the remaining 25mg back. I'll be asleep within the next hour. I was afraid, because it is so strong, that it might put me into a deep stupor where I would be difficult to wake up - not at all. I still heard noises but I remembered NO dreams!!! So I am no longer waking up during REM & getting a more restful sleep. I did have a mild headache the following morning but it wasn't bad. I'm hoping as I continue on Trazodone for sleep that these few side effects will disappear. So far, this is a miracle drug!
Yes I have been on it for years (50mg) and yes I also gained weight. From what I understand it causes your blood sugar to go down. That is why thet tell you to take it with a snack. Some people take it alittle early -I take it around 9pm and am tired by midnite. I take it only for sleep but it has hard to get off it. Became anxious and unable to sleep.
I only take it periodically to help with sleep. I actually have cervical spinal problems and have a terrible time sleeping because of the pain. Oxycodone makes me hyped up. Valium sometimes relaxes me enough to sleep. Advil PM occasionally helps. My pain mgmt Dr. put me on the trazodone as a sleep aid only - he said it has fewer side effects than Ambien or Lunestra. He did give me a few samples of Lunestra and I did think it helped me sleep well. Because I take so many meds I try to only take them if I need them and to not take particularly the trazodone regularly. If it is prescribed for anxiety/depression then you need to obviously take it regularly. ANY meds that you have been prescribed you should never stop taking cold turkey. ALL of them you need to be weaned off of slowly and in consultation with your Dr. I have had some weight gain but it's probably more related to steroids and being less active than anything else.
Never quit cold turkey---ease off the meds slowly--especially if you were on them for a year.
I am a 20 year old Male. I have been taking trazodone for 4 years,
almost 5 for insomnia. My initial dose was 50mg per night. I stuck with
this for a year and it worked great. Eventually 50mg was not enough and
had to raise to 75mg. I stuck with this for 2 years. Past year or 2 I
found myself needing 100mg to get more than 6 hours sleep.
I also have side effects like extreme dry mouth, groggy in morning till about noon, congested nose, sweating etc. One day I was in a situation where I could not take my trazodone for a night. The next day was the worst day ever. I did not think it was due to trazodone. But I was having panic attacks and nervous breakdowns at work for no reason. I could not even drive, I felt as if my judgement was impaired and did not have the confidence to drive. I had to go home for the day. My anxiety was so terrible, I was crying for no reason and just felt very very depressed, only thought about the bad things in my life and I tried so hard to make myself happy. I was shaking and trembling the rest of the day.
That night I took my traz, and my depression, anxiety, trembling, and overall feeling like c**p just stopped. I knew trazodone was the culprit.
Lately since i raised to 100mg, I notice it makes my thinking feel cloudy and I'm not sharp like I normally am. I have no motivation to do a simple assignment. Luckily its summer, so I have time to "withdraw"
Will I be okay by lowering dosage from 100mg to 75mg? I wanna do this for a month then drop to 50mg for the whole month of august. I eventually want to be off this drug, but if 50mg is enough to help me sleep and not affecting school/work, then I am ok with that.

From what I understand, if getting too much it can build up in your system. This happened to me when I first began to take it. I just notice I felt groggy in the morning. How ever the therapist I was working with noticed my speech was slurred and the grogginess in the am. I now take 50 mg also and got those same exact symptons when I tried to go off. for 4 days until I started back on them. I too would like to go down slowly to 25, then 12.5 Very slowly but right now and decreasing another drug. In my opinion I would began to cut back to 75 till body gets used to it again
