Listen people, I used suboxone to combat methadone withdrawals, I weened myself down to 10mg of methadone and jumped off.I have a fast metabolism so I waited 36 hours since my last dose of Methadone(this does not work for some people who refused to ween their methadone doses down before switching, you'll have to wait at least 72 hours and even that may not be enough) and dosed 2mg of Sub to make sure I wouldn't get precipitated withdrawals, I noticed a hot feeling and took a shower. I got out of the shower feeling my withdrawal nearly taken care of, I waited two hours and took another 2mg. My withdrawals were gone and I slept like a baby. I waited until I started feeling decently sick again and took a dose of 4mg, (it took me about 16 hours to really start feeling ill) THAT 4 mg held me for 24 hours(with slight discomfort after 12 hours) and I started getting sick, I stuck it out, took a Xanax to fall asleep. Dosed 4mg when I woke up for work the next day, was fine for another 24 hours, Dosed 2 mg and that held me for a day, dosed another 2 mg the next day and now I can handle the withdrawals I feel now. You have to do it right and keep in my mind there is no way out of this without having ANY withdrawals if you were coming down from a high dose and after abusing for years, you have to pay a price for what you've done to your body. Your withdrawals will be manageable at this point(it may take others a few extra days at low doses of suboxone) and I'm not taking suboxone, an occasional benzo to sleep but I feel I'm coming around and I'll finally be free of the horror of this opiate addiction. Take it one day at a time. I've abused every Pain pill you could imagine for 4 years, hopped on a methadone program realized that was a damn mistake and than decided to do this detox and its been working just fine. Just be prepared, you are going to have to go through some discomfort, just bring it to a manageable state so you can get through the days. REALIZE AS WELL MOST OF YOUR PROBLEM IS IN YOUR HEAD AND YOU COULD BE THE REASON YOUR WITHDRAWALS ARE SO BAD, mind over matter, it took me 3 withdrawals and plenty of relapses before I finally figured that out, stay strong, stay positive, have supportive people in your life. Peace and Love. (Remember you are not alone)

while i believe your intent is good in nature your advice is pretty unsound. only a doctor who has properly evaluated an opiate addicted person can determine the proper dosage to eliminate withdrawl symptoms and cravings for someone. even then it takes sometimes a couple weeks to find the right dose because of things like, length of use, tolerance, bmi, etc. this phase is called "induction". i know this because i am prescribed suboxone. yes your advice would probably for most people eliminate a good bit of withdrawl, but if taken to quickly it could also precipitate far worse withdrawl. i'm not trying to put you down or anything but its a dangerous thing to give such broad and vague medical advise. It could really screw up someones body..

Ive been an iv heroin addict for ten years and have done the suboxone cycle numerous times. Sub when taken properly can be a miracle but so many people are truly misinformed about it. And sub getting you high???? NO WAY you are taking WAYYYY tOOO MUCH. If you are trying to get off pills a crumb of sub will make a huge difference. You dont need 16-24-32 mg a day!!! For heavier users it is true as mentioned above by someone else that the sub will stop working and when you do a gram or two of heroin a day with sub in between it becomes less effective... however, it WILL take the edge off and ive found that it works best when only used in the first few days of my detox off of h. My first experience with sub was after using oxys (800 mg a day or so) and was prescribed 32 mg a day. Again way too much, I ended up relapsing to heroin. Then my second real period of sobriety came with a longer sub treatment plan.. I was on it for about a year but only 2mg a day which i lowered every couple of weeks until i was at a quarter then jumped off... I FEARED withdrawals so much but truthfully it wasnt that bad... I had mood swings and dilated pupils but nothing major... However, after about another year i relapsed. This time I didn't want to be on methadone nor sub nor valium nor antidepressants. Nothing. I had 1 1/2 subs and coming off a large amount of heroin.. again. I used the subs in 2 mg the first and second day then 1 mg the 3rd and 4th. Then basically as small as i could break the last pieces on the last two days. I was still in full withdrawal for the first 5 days but sub did take the edge off and kept me from puking up my insides and the delirium and hallucinations ive had before during cold turkey w/d. Day 5 i felt ok but then the next five days i felt slight withdrawals coming off the sub. It took a couple weeks to get back to feeling ok... But im rid of all meds and drugs. Withdrawal is something we do to ourselves and it will take time to heal but trust me it is so worth it when you come out on the other side not dependent on ANYTHING. Use sub but use it wisely. If its making you tired, high, or full of energy, you are taking too much. And from my experience its been most effective used in small amounts for a short time, especially if you have been a chronic user and relapser. The withdrawals only get harder and harder to go thru and take more time to get better so if you dont have to do them once from DOC then again years later off sub.

This is my opinion about subs. I was a heroin addict for around 2 years. Then finally after going threw withdrawl for 3 days (was on vacation and couldnt bring dope on the plane or find it out there) I wanted to see the Dr when I got home. When I saw the doc he prescribed me 2 subs a day and didnt even talk to me in detail about my situation. I thought it was kind of sketchy because he just handed them out so quickly but i heard from a friend that subs really helped. They were a miracle and got me off the dope and i felt great so after a few months of being clean and just takin subs I thought to myself why am i even taking subs im not getting high or anything its just pointless and a waste of money so i tried to get myself off them. the first 24hrs were not the greatest but deff nothing to complain about but that night and the next day i felt the withdrawl symptoms so i started looking things up online and reading everyones post on multiple websites because i didnt ever get informed of having withdrawl symptoms for suboxone. For me (everyones different) i think that the sub withdrawal is absolutely a million times easier to get through then the heroin withdrawal. I asked my mom because she is a doctor about the withdrawal for subs and she told me that almost every medication prescribed to people has some type of withdrawal when you stop taking it..think about it ...your body has chemicals in it every day for a long period of time that once they arent there anymore your going to feel a little off depending what medication you've been taking. Subs are designed to help you threw the opiate withdrawal because that is a million times worse then sub withdrawal and its also used so you dont have cravings to go use dope again. Subs are a wonderful creation and work to perfection but if you take it for a long time your body becomes used to having it so when you get off of it you wont feel the greatest but it is so much easier to get thru the sub withdrawal then the opiate. once again in my opinion depending on how bad your addiction is i would buy 3-4 subs total NO MORE.. try to take 1 sub the first day and if you have to take another half then so be it but for the next 2-3 days take only a quarter to a half and then once that 4th/5th day starts, dont take any. You wont feel 100% but thats not the goal , the goal is to not be dependent on ANYTHING. You dont want your body to start depending on them. If you find yourself really struggling then take them for a week but for the last few days take a quarter of a half of one (basically barely take any at all) and always try to take it before you go to bed so sleeping will be easier. Do not take subs for more than a week. Another thing that helps people get over withdrawal is if you take a xanax or a kpin before you go to bed to help you sleep easier or if you have a muscle relaxer that will help too just no matter what you take do not abuse it, im not telling you to trade one addiction for another and the point of taking something like xanax is only for you to sleep easier not for you to get high. Oh and I almost forgot that if you exercise you will release natural endorphins in your body so working out helps tremendously and after you work out, take a nice hot bath because that helps with restless legs. Working out (even if its just walking a mile or 2) will help out a lot because it will also help your hunger and I know for me when i went through withdrawal I only ate half a sandwich in like 3 days so minimizing the hunger and lack of sleep will make the withdrawal a lot easier. The last thing is if you smoke marijuana then that helps with the pain and lack of eating too.
This is all my opinion you dont necessarily have to agree with it but thats how I did it and Im on nothing right now except for Vyvanse (which is for adhd and i have been on that for so long that i wouldnt ever get a "high" nor do I abuse it) and I smoke and drink. I don't want people to get offended because some of the things I said that help are illegal ( like smoking and xanax) but thats what made it easy for me so my philosophy is you gotta do what you gotta do in order to get off everything and if I have to pop one pill like xanax to help save my life and get me off of heroin then yea im going to do it. So hopefully what I have said helps even one person and ill be happy because drugs really are the worst thing in life
You need to find things in life that make you happy besides drugs and once your off drugs you will realize what I am saying. For me making my family happy, or making someones life better some how is a high that no drug can get you. Find things in your life that are productive and that make you happy to help you also and you will notice that once your fully independent from all the drugs and it will make you so happy with yourself and you will become a better more happier person. So I hope this helps and remember this is all my opinion so don't try to critique the things I say because I could care less what you have to say because Im off drugs and am the happiest I have been in so long and I just want to help other people pull through so they realize how happy their life can be with out drugs.
Remember drugs are only a temporary solution, if you have any questions about anything Ive said feel free to ask

I would point out that you took the suboxone for a coule months to get yourself to a point where you wanted to be clean. I think that is key. I tried to just take the subs to prevent withdrawal, like you said, I bought 4 and tapered down. I was not sick, but my cravings and my desire to get high was still there. That is what has to be treated, after that, the withdrawals are not as bad.
After acouple months I imagine you had a healthy routine and your cravings were gone. I just want others to know that those couple months are key. Once you have the other things in your life in order, which is what actual outpatient therapy and support groups help with, the suboxone will not be needed. I think your recovery story is a perfect example of how to correctly use suboxone. Just don't discount the work you did to get yourself to where you are now. Those couple months on the suboxone were a huge part of your success and I want others reading to realize how important those couple months of your being on suboxone were. Good luck with your continued recovery, you are a great example of what the desire to be clean can accomplish. God bless.

That's a lie, Buprenorphine is not what blocks the drugs from your body - the blocker is the naloxone, Bup is the opiate in the drug suboxone. Do your research because naloxone and narcan are both blockers that don't allow the drug to reach your bloodstream so you can't get high from it. Let me explain this to you in simpler terms.. When you use opiates there is a drug called subutex or suboxone which one does not have the blocker and the other is strictly buprenorphine. So before you give suggestions to people allow them to understand that your point is wrong and NALOXONE is the actual blocker you id**t.

Your response sounds like that of a true addict. There's always an excuse not to get clean. If it was easy to get off on your own then I'm assuming you wouldn't be a 4 year addict since nobody's goal in life is to be an addict. So what's your excuse for still using since you think Suboxone is just a way for the pharmaceutical companies and government to 'get ya'? I was on Suboxone for 1 year, I'm been clean for 3 years. If you were someone that had successfully stopped on your own then your post would make a little more sense, however you're merely an addict who will always be making excuses as to why they don't have to stop and that's just sad.
