Here is the truth no matter what anyone says.. suboxone used correctly really can help you quit drugs.. its a fact the problem is people do exactly what this guy is doing.. they just use them to get through the times they don't have money to find oxys or perk's or whatever... but for those who REALLY want to quit.. this is the way.. do not do methadone, its the worst withdrawal like shaking sh**ting anxiety which is the worst to me. Here is another secret busted wide open... if your just trying to quit and you don't want to be on anything for a long time.. you do exactly what this kid said.. take to and stretch them out.. the sad part is if your already on suboxone for a long period of time there is a half life.. so basically your going to have to at the very least wait a few days to start this process id say do this trick the moment you start to feel REAL withdrawals not mental but physical.. and when you are off remember to drink a lot of water and to exercise like crazy.. STAY BUSY don't be one of those people who lay around all day bitching.. it just makes it worse when you focus on it.. Good luck everyone!!

Sorry but this info is very incorrect! When Suboxone is taken orally as prescribed, the naloxone component does absolutely nothing! It does not affect the action of the buprenorphine. You need to research this, and take advice from docs, not other addicts!
Buprenorphine IS only a partial opiate agonist/ partial antagonist. The naloxone ONLY kicks in IF IT IS INJECTED! So, technically, taken sublingually, the action of Suboxone and Subutex are EXACTLY THE SAME!

Wow~never have I seen so much bad information on a Forum!!! I am a 20+ year Opiate Addict, been thru it all, from oxys to methadone, heroine, and Subs. I've kicked in the world, Ive kicked in Jail. IMO Subs are the easiest to deal with as far as withdrawal. When I was forced to come off of them I was taking 1 8mg tab a day. The period of time that the symptoms last is extremely long though. But the actually symptoms to me, are bearable. Subs do work wonders for short term kicks as well. For me a good rule of thumb is "Less is More" when dealing with Suboxone. (Incidently, a Opiate Virgin will get higher than a research monkey if they take a Suboxone Strip for about 36 hours)
I'm not even sure where I am going w/this.....I cant believe I actually read 9 pages of this BS~LOL.....
Anyways, I wish you all the best of luck!!!

This is an old thread, but I see that now, 2 years later, there is still a lot of confusion/misinformation about suboxone. For instance the information in Recovrngaddct's post is so off and he may have really screwed the guy he was trying to help with dangerous and bad advice. So i decided to say a bit and hopefully help the googlers out there avoid some crzy sh&t bc sub's can lead to some serious sh*t.
First: naloxone is not there to block the opiates. You can read RIGHT ON THE PACKAGE. It is only there to stop injection and it appears to only be good at that in higher doses - not that ive tried. The bupe in subs does all the opiate blocking via opiate competition. So its a matter of one opiate preventing the previous illicit opiate from generating its withdrawals and especially its desire.
Second: This is the VERY MOST IMPORTANT thing. Suboxone has a high chance of causing panic attacks. This is no joke. They are severe panic attacks too, and they are made worse bc when it happens ppl don't know what is happening and their doctors don't tell them its a possibility. I had a few panic attacks in highschool over some parental c**p. It was scary but not really that bad and it stopped when i dealt with my issues. But those were absolutely nothing compared to this. If any of you are on subs and getting panic attacks look up panic attacks on wiki. read about the symptoms. It will help immensely to know that there is a reason u feel this way and you aren't going insane. Read about derealization, depersonification, and "fear of going insane/dieing" in particular.
When those symptoms hit you and u aren't expecting it... wow. I've never been so scared. I all the sudden felt like the world around me wasn't real and I didn't fit there. I felt like the universe was meaningless and about to collapse on me. And I was terrified and truly believed that i was going to go insane and stay that way for the rest of my life. This is why I made this post - to particularly help people experiencing this - because it's so bad. It was so bad I'm still having to go on walks and meditate to deal with a phobia I've developed of it happening again. That is after just 2 or 3 panic attacks.
If it happens to you the best thing you can do is read about them and repeat to yourself its not going to last. Also, walks are very important - jogs are better. The endorphins will counter the panic. The best thing is to keep your sub dose as low as possible. A mere 1to3 mgs is often all it takes even for extreme opiate abuse. Over 8mg's is rarely necessary. It is very best to taper over a week as fast as you can, like the guy mentioned above. Get off before a week if at all possible. You can even skip days taking it - as long as wd's don't manifest significantly this is fine. I would take 2 or 3 8mg's and then skip 2 or 3 days. This might not work for everyone and at the time I didn't know about keeping my dose low so that might change the effect - but play around. Doctors really are extremely negligent when it comes to subs. They are extremely powerful, but you just can't really tell because they aren't subjectively powerful. you won't feel them like other opiates. But with that said they can get you high. Ignore anyone who says they can't. The high goes away after the first few doses though, sometimes after the first. And for some people it doesn't happen at all. For many people the high is mild.
I want to point out one more odd consideration when it comes to subs. I have been noticing a lot of people using subs in conjunction with kratom. This isn't surprising since they both are used to get off of opiates. There isn't much info out there about this combo though. I got off of opiates this way. Take this seriously. Kratom wd's can commonly cause panic attacks too. So the interaction of this combo can get very messy. I experienced this personally and extensively. I found the combo very effective bc kratom wd's, depending on your chemistry, can get bad too. Switching back and forth can really help minimize the panic attacks and restless legs - but don't do this to long.
