I am a mom that has a son that was bourn to methadone and my son did not go through with drawl and if he did very little but I breastfed him they say to help ween him off that's a good way to do it and only to do it for a few months and for methadone yet the do test but the mother obviously did not want the baby and did not care but they don't kick you off if your not clean it's a treatment program some ppl take a long time to get fully clean where as as soon as I knew I was pregnant I got on methadone I had been on morphine from my Dr from a bad car accident but they can't tell you how bad the baby will go through withdrawl you can be on 5 mills and the baby go through severe withdrawal where I was at 95 mills and my son was fine but I do not think any woman pregnant should be able to use drugs while pregnant and if they are they should be locked up while there are pregnant so they can't use drugs

I would hate to have you as my mother in law. The baby needs to be swaddled. My baby was born on methadobe and we left thehospital 3 days later. You read some stuff off the internet but have no idea. My baby cries I swaddled him and he is fine. I did feel guilty about his withdrawals so as soon as I left the hospital I detoxed myself. Happy to say im clean still (3 months later). You should be more understanding. Its not easy being an addict. You constantly have that monkey on your back. All babies cry.

You really are a piece of sh*t because everybody is different!!!-I have been clean for 3 years because of the methadone program and my doctor told me about it and to use it as pain management because of my carpel tunnel in both my hands and got addicted to the pain pills. Me and my husband to be just found out we got pregnsnt while on.birth control! Amazing news but I have been worried about the baby ever since. I wanted to get down as low as possible on.my dose before the birth of the baby but they wouldnt let me because they are liable and what you feel the baby feels. Withdrawl can cause you to miscarry the baby. Everyones case is different and you shouldnt be so quick to judge. I have talked to alot of mothers who had perfectly heathy babies on methadone with no detox needed. IIt's a 50 50 chance that im willing to take.This baby is a miracle and I would never abort it due to methadone. The hospital monitors that baby so closely and wouldnt put him or her through any harm.

I am right there with you, a mother of 3 and methadone maintenance treatment is the only way I can actually get by because I was born with a chemical imbalance where my body does not produce enough endorphins or serotonin to make me feel normal. I'm a suburban, married, upper class business owner and no one would ever guess I'm on this program for life. People should not be so quick to iudge others...

I go to a clinic and DON'T get any type of high. I am on it because I almost died. Now that I have been clean as I feel it has been long enough of a time away from drugs, I have started to titrate down in the process of getting off. I know what people think about methadone and the clinics, but if it doesn't affect you, why be so cruel and hateful to the people who need it. Do you understand that heroine is a drug that can permanently destroy and ruin your body. My fiancé was prescribed it because his body can't handle not having the opioid. Like, seriously. He goes into a deathly depression. They have done blood tests and all and I hate that he has to be on it, but it's comparable to me being on my anti depressants, and anxiety, which in any case will get you higher than methadone from a clinic that drug test you and watch you take it. Good luck getting high in the clinic. If people are getting high they are abusing it and that has nothing to do with what they give you in the actual clinic. People who are on it have to take it to stop from being sick. On methadone I can work and be normal as you. No one except my immediate family knows and no one can tell or suspect. Not everyone abuses it. I hate that stigma. It is in no way like shooting up heroine or pills. Ha. But it keeps my cravings away. I'm alive and haven't murdered anyone for the illegal drug so yea I'd say it helped me tremendously. I have never been kidnapped or raped or had to sleep in a cold wet abandoned house over methadone, but I have over other illegal drugs. Drugs make people crazy. I was trash when I was using. If you met me now, you wouldn't be able to tell. I served in the military and Im about to go into Med school. I'm not defending it because it's a legal high. I flipping hate being on it because of the stigma. Really it's like a ware wolves cage if you can understand that. It's difficult to travel being on it because I have to dose everyday. Being sober and watching the money get used up there, it sucks. No it's not a pleasurable thing AT ALL. In Europe they have centers for people to do their drugs which are still illegal, and provide them with fresh needles. But I can live a successful live on it methadone. My fiancé can live a successful life on it. Anti depressants made him suicidal, made him sick, made him sleep all day, and he took them exactly as prescribed. Several different ones. A year into this and being clean, they recommended him going to the methadone clinic. He had no idea what it was then. The only high like sensations I've ever had was first starting it. That left quick. I can survive on methadone, but can't on 30 pills a day which is $240 for that amount here depending on what it is of course. One substance is $25 for 1 pill and nobody ever takes just one. Just a little background history. So you see, not EVERYBODY are on it for the wrong reasons. I haven't failed ANY drug test after the first month. Anyways night night. Have to get up early for wedding planning.

This is the most ignotant post I've ever read and I actually feel sorry that your daughter has such a judgemental mother. I was on suboxone when I got pregnant and my ob said the nalaxone in the suboxone isn't safe for the baby. I told my OB (who had no relation to any type of methadone clinic or anything of the like) that I was going to detox and she showed me a bunch of studies done from researchers at Johns Hopkins and other reputable sources that its too dangerous because the baby in utero is lsnt developed enough to handle that stress, they're way too fragile in the first and second and some of the third trimester and that miscarriage is a huge risk. I went to 4 different hospitals all over the country to talk to doctors who specialized in babies born on substances and all of them said "if youre willing to run the risk of miscarriage, which will be a heightened risk then you can detox but methadone or subutex maintenance is recommended" none of these doctors worked at clinics or had any relation to such clinics. Some mothers aren't willing to risk loosing their baby. I do believe some women take advantage of it and get on doses which are too high that way they can still get a buzz "legally" but if used properly and have your methadone doctor and ob work together as a team its a beautiful thing. Your daughter is not selfish. Selfish would be staying on illegal umsupervised drugs. She chose to not risk a miscarriage that's not selfish. Also methadone helps reduce cravings which gives a better chance of staying clean from other substances whereas detoxing runs a bigger risk of relapse and illegal street drugs are much more dangerous. Its not to even say the exposure to methadone is whats causing her crying. My mom has never used a narcotic or controlled substance in her life and I cried the whole first year of my life because of collic. Anyways, I kept my dose at 8-10mgs of methadone my entirr pregnancy and my son came up negative for it. Hes 3 now and hes developing a year ahead of his age he had no issues as a baby, no emotional or physical issues now. Methadone saved my life along with my sons life and has helped me be the best mother possible. I detoxed off methadone once he was born but it truly saved our lives during the pregnancy. Babies can sense tension and if youre acting judgemental and belittle your daughter for this then that could be causing stress on your grandbaby. Think about this, are you happy your grandbaby is here or would youd rather your daughter of detoxed and miscarried and you wouldnt have your grand baby at all?

There's actually a huge difference are you serious? You have no idea what is in heroin or crack let alone potency. You known exactly whats in methadone and the exact "potency" (mgs) some people misuse methadone to get high but if youre using ir correctly and are at the proper dose you will not feel tired or "nod" if your dose is making you lethargic or sleepy than your dose is too high. And it sounds like malpractice of the doctors unfortunately caused his death and im so sorry to hear that. If they wouldve properly treated himfor NAS he would've been fine. I just gave birth 11 days ago and I was addicted to methadone and my baby was addicted as well and has severe withdrawal symptoms. He was having severe tremors, sneezing, temperature ups and downs, irritability, trouble feeding and sleeping. They had to give him morphine and took them about 1 week to find a comfort level meaning they had to increase his dosage until they found a dosage that he would not show levels of discomfort . He is now on day 11 and is getting better by the day. My breast milk is what's really helping him. I've been encouraged to g
Continue giving him breast milk as I continue taking methadone as it help with his symptons. It's the best thing for him and I've seen a major change in him with the breast milk so I've been pumping as much as I can!! I just want him to come home with me!!

I was told by a Dr. that the it is impossible for a infant to go through with drawl since it would be 6 months before his central nervous system was intact. I have viewed other sites that say how terrible it's is but the site nonspecific actions. I was also told by medical personnel it is about the same as a mother who smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. Now from personal experience detox last for 120 hours no more and no less. Also as a doctor you should know your observation is the least reliable way of proving a point. Just one last question which do you think is child abuse being born to a mother addicted or male circumstism?

any baby can be born with eye issues or blind it's not the methadone..... everyone needs to blame something or someone.!

Mom's on methadone..... your not doing anything wrong if your clean and healthy..... you take a prescription drug ... don't feel bad . Your baby doesn't have the mental capacity to understand the withdrawls....do you Remember being born or any thoughts before age 5 ? Noooooooo

Babies do go through withdraw and it is horrible to watch them suffer because of what their mother chose to put in her body!The baby doesn't have that choice and they do remain fidgety with affected moodswings even up to age 2. I agree that it is selfish to get pregnaunt if your a drug addict, alcoholic or addicted on Tobacco..

Methedone/maintenance drug is not supposed to b used for years..How bout stop getting pregnant until u can b completely clean. Stop being weak n selfish. Ur baby is feeling the real pain from withdrawing something u have never experienced. SMH
