There are ZERO weight lifting exercises that stunt your growth. I posted a similar thread on this earlier tonight and I can tell you--do not let the fear of this keep you from exercising! It is an old wives tale! Ignore it and be careful. You still don't want to hurt yourself, obviously.

It is obvious that Misek is not a fitness professional or a healthcare professional with current infornation.
The NSCA states that an eight year can start a properly supervised rsistance training program.
Next all reported "growth plate injuries to teenage boys occurred due to unsupervised weightraining.
you must get the proper information so you start weight training.
I started when I was 14.
the key for any one is always proper technique!

Since im only 5.5 will that effect me more or should i keep working out. Ive gain 20 pounds of muscles and before my body weight was 97 and now is 117. CAN someone tell me if its good or not or should i just work out ??

You have to be safe with everything now days. Exercises especially. If you don't know how to handle the machines properly you might get an injury. I was looking at this and was thinking how this is a good opportunity to remind people to be safe during holidays. Cell phones while driving is really dangerous.

Misek is an id**t. Light weight at 20 to 30 reps is what teens should be doing. Less reps with more weight bring you to muscle failure and should be avoided by teens. Stenuous and heavy weighted exercises do interfere with platelet movement. Using your own body weight or light weight with high reps will give you the aerobic exercise you need to burn fat and be athletic.

People say that weightlifting can stunt your growth, to me, all the time. I did PE gcse which said that weightlifting doesn't stunt your growth at all, but if you do too much, then it can cause bent bones, as the growth plates on the end of your bones grow unnaturally. Take it easy, but dont worry about not growing any more

Lifting weights is great for helping you to build muscle and helps to an extent with the bones. I think it would be OK, just not the heavy duty hard core weight lifting. You would be more likely to get hurt as your body is going through great changes. Wait until your body is done with changing for that.

From what i have researched there isn't enough evidence that lifting at a young age can stunt your growth but it can have other effects.
It can cause tension and puts too much pressure and tension on the muscles as there growing and can do damage later in life unless you lift weights with and instructor who can guide you to lift properly. I have been lifting weights since i was 14 and haven't had a problem and if you are going to do it at home make sure you know what you are doing and don't just lift as heavy as you can lift, there is more to it and you can do damage if you aren't doing it correctly.

ok im sick of everyone saying that weight lifting is bad, it stunts your growth, blah blah blah. i've been working out since i was 15 now i'm 17 and ready to be certified as a personal trainer next year. bench press will absolutely NOT stunt your growth and the only way you will stunt your growth is if you over head press at least double the amount weight in your body not including fat (muscle, bone, organs, etc). for example, if you weigh 120 pounds and 110 of that weight is not fat and you want to shoulder press, you would have to press at least 220 pounds. that means you would have to use the 110 pound dumbells. if you are a beginner and you can do the 110's then i will kiss the ground you walk on. the only thing that might have an impact on your growth plates is the quat. but as a beginner its not a must do excercise. your growth plates are still very resiliant at the age of 16 so dont over think it.

Im 15 and ive been weight lifting since i was 14, lucky for me im very tall, im 6ft2 now, before my weightlifting i was a bit fat and was about 6ft0. I've still grown and i believe im still growing, i dont see why you shouldnt, you are 16 and have a lot of fat to lose so obviously you can begin weight lifting, remember to get some advice on how to life the weights in the certain way, better to use the gym so if you need any help its there. dont be a pleb and start off with the maximum weight you can lift.

Well i haven't seen any harm in it yet and i'm 15 started about a year ago so when i started i was 14 and i'm pretty buffed now and can't see any side effects so far but it's best not to start at the age of 12, id say start about age 15-16 when your fully developed.

Saying stay away from bench presses, leg presses, and squats is like saying dont do math or english untill youre 20 its absurd. Excercising with weights decreases fat increases muscle tone and strengthens bone sturcture in a way you van actually grow a 1/4 inch (I know it's not a lot but it proves the stunting growth theory wrong). If you dont excercise in your teen years when the hormones are pumping through your body when they stop when you stop growing you cant develop your muscles the right way. If this happens you need to buy Herbal Growth Hormones to develop the muscles so 1 they look good (for the ladies) and 2 so that you can go past handling your own body weight and really pump iron to get healthy. This wont be neccesary if you started now while you still have the natural hormones your body gave you and you wont have to worry about it later youll have the development the only question is how much tone do you want? hope this helps im 15 ive been growing vertically and mucularly a lot since i started lifting (but not too much just enough for the guns).
