Thats totaly BS, your growth is not affected by heavy weights I do bodybuilding (fitness) since I was 15 in that time i was 1.77m tall now I am 21 & 1.85 tall its totally BS that you stop growing when you lift heavy weights dont worry bout that just learn the propper techniques for bodybuilding and you will see that your on a good path!! one thing that can affect your growth is being fatt because the body isnt healthy as it is fat and the bones are allways much more tired bcuz of the heavy weight in your body 24/7. To get a better example see jeff seid hes been working since he was 12 now hes 19 hes 1.83m tall so I dont really think that bodybuilding will affect your growth... bcuz its almost up to your genetics!!!

Hello, I am 14 years old and I'm also weight lifting. I'm always going for my maximum and I'm 5'9 at the moment. I think its true that your growth goes slower. Since the stuff that you're body needs to grow goes to your muscles but you're length is in you're DNA. I'm not sure but you should not worry, my father also lifts and my mother isn't that tall, I'm longer then both of them.

My goodness did you read what he wrote... HE IS OVERWEIGHT ("Quite Fat")!!!!!.. He is lifting HEAVY weight ALL DAY EVERY DAY!.. IS THAT HEALTHY?? BEING fat at 16 will stunt your growth!!...I really wish ppl would think. At your age (especially post puberty) It is perfectly ok to lift weights. It will increase strength, increase your cardiovascular system and as a bonus SHED FAT!!. Now; depending on your current strength I would start off with body weight excercises, i.e. 'air squats' push ups, stairs climbs, interval jogging or interval weight training with light dumbells etc. then begin a supervised weight training program, and for god sakes EAT HEALTHIER! remember there is a difference between body building and weight training.. YOU NEED WEIGHT TRAINING. As do all teens for that matter!!

your full highness,
Have you started puberty?
Endless intention without action yields not surprisingly ZERO results
" That is why I started "
doing something is a step in the right direction
" My neighbor says"
Are all your neighbors crackpots?
"should I stop this action "
You have not provided enough information to offer an informed judgment.

The transmogrified urban legend focuses on puberty. You ought not heavy weight train before PUBERTY BEGINS for various reasons.

that is a complete lie! bench press, leg press and shoulder press does not effect your growth at all unless you have a serious injury doing it. Leg press carries out the same motion of a squat minus the pressure on your spine. the pressure put on your spine from shoulder press is the same as carrying a friend on your shoulders which does not stunt your growth and bench press only puts pressure on your spine if done wrong. Do not put people of weight training if you do not know what you are talking about!

my teen did an exercise for her thighs at our local gym. she was there with her mom. she was in a strong growth spurt and sadly the femor slipped off the femor head at the growth plate. telling someone that it is "safe" for teens to lift weights is poor judgement. ask my daughter who is 13 how she feels with a 7cm screw in her leg.

I think the use of weights in a proper way can improve your body strength.your neighbor is 100% wrong i guess that he will be not well educated.keep your weightlifting and improve your body in shape. i hope you will be able to get a good physique. good luck............

What in the world else would you expect a 15 year old person to say that lifts weights, I should not be doing this and I am any way... besides the fact that there are studies that show your statements are wrong as a blanket statement... there is very clear evidence that heavy lifting CAN stunt growth and depending on the amount of HEAVY depends on the amount of stunting... t also depends on the genes of the person lifting... some take to lifting better than others.
Neither can you make the blanket statement that smoking three packs a day will kill you... I know people that have smoked like a chimney into their 90's... its not an issue of will it happen 100% of the time, but it is proven that smoking can kill.... just as it is proven that heavy lifting CAN stunt growth... any other conclusion is just misinformed and wrong... sorry to pop your 16 year old bubble...
