Be warned: If you do this too soon after your extraction (like within the first week) you WILL get dry socket. When you're spraying out the hole before it has had a proper chance to heal, you're not only rinsing away the food particles but the new tissue that is trying to grow as well. This will cause dry socket. Rinse GENTLY with warm saltwater instead.
I am so glad to hear I am not alone. I have nothing useful to say other than I am experiencing this awful taste and smell in my mouth. It is so nasty, almost worse than the pain of this whole thing. I could cry it is so disgusting.
Did your gums look dark? Did you get pain in your lower lip and chin?
I have been doing the salt water rinses after i put anything in my mouth, would this be substitutable for using the syringe?
okay okay I think I diagnosed myself.... lol... I just got a tooth pulled, just a simple procedure...but its been 3 days since ... I have noticed this horrible awful taste in my mouth and when I blew my nose it was horrific!!! my husband and friends said it was probably a sinus infection... but in the back of my mind I was convinced I was dying from the inside, out!! the smell when I blew my nose was like no other!! Ewwwkkkk ... im 39 years old I have had plenty of sinus infections.. doesn't taste or smell like that!!!! At work I was gagging all day...So what did you do to rid this antibiotics??? What the heck?? I feel like im decaying... iiiiickkkkk... please message me info!!!!
So if they're is a hole and yellow type stuff is in in where the tooth whole is you have a dry socket?
Same thing here! I had horrible allergies last week that morphed into sinus/head cold. I got horrible smelling and tasting mucus - reminds me of tar. I had just had my wisdom teeth removed and wondered if it was related to that.
1. I saw my family physician and she said it was a sinus infection and prescribed me antibiotics and a steriod to boost progress.
2. I saw my oral surgeon and he said the teeth removal and sinitis *could* be related but that the prescriptions my doctor put me on should clear it up. I'm just on day 2 of the prescriptions so can't really report any progress yet.
I had an upper wisdom tooth that was removed and it resulted in the same exact symptoms. Best remedy for this is grapefruit seed extract mixed with a saline solution. Works better than any medicine the doctor will give you.
Apparently, the nasty drainage coming from your teeth is, for a lack of better word, the rotten food that has gotten stuck where the doctors pulled out the wisdom tooth. I'm having the same problem, and the taste is disgusting. Gurgling some salt water helps for a bit, but it still doesn't completely get rid of the taste.
Had the same problem with my wisdoms, I thought it was dry socket but what I did is got a q-tip and pressed down(lightly) on the back where the gums are and the puss will drain out and fall into your mouth( it's gross I know had to do it to both bottom wisdom extractions) but after that the pain should subside due to the puss being drained out!
The pain is very normal. I'm on my 5th day and it still hurts. The pain will be pretty noticiable and bad. I have hydros for three days, and could still feel discomfort on those. It hurts now, because I'm out of the medicine. It's bad for you because you aren't taking your medicine.

My dentist left one root in because it was attached to my sinus. She said once removed it would cause a canal from my mouth to sinus. After wisdom tooth removal you aren't allowed to blow your nose.

Just rinsing is no substitute for using the syringe when you have large holes where your teeth were once (especially the bottom wisdom teeth). I often will rinse my mouth and use the syringe and there is always particulate matter left in after the rinse that the syringe dislodges.
I'm having kind of the same problem. I got all 4 of mine removed 9 days ago and I just recently got what I thought was a cold. 2 days after I thought it was just a cold my bright green mucus started to smell terrible. Like I almost puke at the smell. And I don't know if it's because of the wisdom teeth or something entirely different. What's going on??
This is not true, you have mixed up your information. Putting any warmth on an injury after the first 24 hours will increases the swelling and make it worse, you should apply an ice pack to ease swelling.
