Having just had a pin removed there was no pain just a tug and it was out, I was terrified!!
Did the dr or nurse remove your pins? I've had hammertoe surgery four weeks ago on 2nd 3rd 4th toe and have pins in all 3 also he mentioned that something had been fused together and also mentioned he had done metatarsal release, I'm due to have my pins removed in 5 days and to my horror was told that the nurse will be removing the pins, I'm terrified as the slightest knock to the pin is horrendous, also has anybody had the pins put in that are very low, my pins hit the floor before my foot did so dr had to put a wedge inside surgical shoe, has helped but downside is, my surgical shoe constantly needs to be worn. Any advice on pin removal will be very helpful. My pins are not i wire or the pin with yellow round ball at top my is just a pin with a loop at the top looks like a giant needle you would use to stitch.
I had 4 pins removed yesterday and it doesn't hurt at all so don't worry but I found the pain in my toes worse than after op
My dr. Promised the pin's would not hurt coming out and he was right.
I am having surgery on my bunion and also the surgeon wants to fuse the second, third and fourth toes. He said the toes would not bend but I thought after awhile they will, but now I am hearing that's not the case that I'll never be able to move those toes
Had 3 pins removed today from 2, 3 and 4th toes on left foot. The pins had been in for 6 weeks. I took 2 paracetomals and 1 gabepentin (100mg) an hour before my appointment. The surgeon picked up my foot (at that point I closed my eyes). He asked if I wanted to see them being removed. I said "definitely not". He said "go on...take a look cos they are already out". I didn't feel a thing and was done in seconds.
No you won't feel pins and won't hurt when removed (just had 3 pins removed today)
You can't feel the pins unless you bend them by falling on your toes! DON'T DO THIS IT WILL HURT TONS when they pull them out, otherwise there is normally little pain at removal!
I had hammertoe surgery on my right pinky toe they shave bone off the toe and save bone off the outside of my foot it's been 12 days and I still can't field outside of my foot now that I am off pain pills and hurts to walk on feels numb all the way through my foot on the bottom. I still have the pain in my toe the doctor said six weeks until he pulls it out. Does the pain go away on the bottom of my foot and on all my joints on the top of the foot where they tore the tendon?
How can u tell if you bent the pin?
I just had my pin removed last week. ABSOLUTELY no pain!
Just had bunion and 2 toes pinned you will defiantly need crutches I've been on them 5 weeks pins taken out today surgeon advised me to carry on using crutches until I feel confident to walk without them
I have the same issue and its been 8 months after bunion/hammertoe surgery. I've done physical therapy and try to be active. Saw doctor yesterday and he said scar tissue is permanent and now have to have another surgery to remove that and two screws that are painful and bothering me.
I also had hammer toe operation on my right 2nd and third toes in March, 2017. As far as the pins being taken out, I pre-emptively approached this by taking one of my pain pills about an hour before going to the doctor for removal. While he was prepping to take them out, I was talking to him and thinking of what I was saying to preoccupy my mind. The removal was not painful, just the apprehension of pain, kept me on edge. When they were out, he put a band aid on each toe (a small amt of blood will come out when they are removed. I got up, put my sock and Post Op boot back on and went home. I would suggest wearing a loose fitting stiff shoe that keeps your foot from flexing and starting out slowly. In a short time you will find yourself doing more and more. Swelling during the post op time and from walking during the day, will go down with bedrest at night. Keep them clean and if you are shy about trying to move the toes around trying to clean them, use soap and water and a Q-tip. Then rinse and let air dry. I am now two months post op and there is no pain... tender sometimes, but no pain. I am now comfy wearing Crocks and leather shoes and carrying heavy objects short distances. I am going to go for my next appt with doctor on this coming monday and will ask about what exercises to do. I will not do more than one visit to the Physical Therapy people...as I think it will be a waste of time and money. But I do want direction on what to do to exercise the toes.
I'm going through the same thing now it's my 2nd, 3rd and 5th toe. I can't move them and I had the surgery April 21. How long will it take? I'm seeing a physical therapist
