Dr. Miller is awesome as is the staff and level of care at Vanderbilt. Good luck with your appointment.
Had my first appt with Dr Miller yesterday. Everything went well except I was hoping not to have the cystoscope.since I had one about two months ago. I understand that she wanted to see for herself. Procedure is scheduled for 10-11-23.

The price of discomfort is well worth paying in order to be able to engage her service --- she is excellent.
I would like to put a vote for Dr. Bandi in Washington DC. I am 75 years old and back in 2000. I was told that I had a dead bladder from a severely large prostate. I also have hemophilia. I have been self catheterizing four times a day for the last 23 years. I saw Dr. Bandi for a second opinion at the request of my primary care physician. He measured my prostate to be 224cc in size. He mentioned that the bladder function study done many years ago could be inaccurate, and most patients with a large prostate will still void after Holep, even if they have a poorly functioning bladder. My surgery lasted less than two hours. He has been discharging most patients the same day. I had minimal bleeding for one week and was totally continent. Three months out I am peing without any problems. He was a godsend and I highly recommend seeing him if you’re in that area.
It's been 5 Days since your procedure. How are you doing?
I am now 10 days post op and 7 days post catheter removal and all is going well. A noticeable improvement in the last 3 days.
I hope you're surprised at two or three weeks, I was. After the first week I improved leaps and bounds. (Hard to do for an 82 year old)
Thanks for the post. I look forward to 2-3 weeks post.
Well Paul, and GGW, how are you progressing? I'm doing very well, not even using pads anymore. I forgot to mention that on my followup visit upon voiding I had "zero" left in my bladder; per ultrasound. I found out that using Depends Briefs for the first month or so was the way to go for me. I used liners for another month or two but have graduated since then. To me this is a Godsend Surgery that I would recommend to anyone. It is indeed the new Gold Standard!
VERY well - thanks for asking. I used some pads that I bought at WalMart, but not anymore. I'm 5 months out, and I usually get up 1 time at night to pee. One thing that has gone away now is the urgency I felt after surgery. After surgery, if I had an urge to go, I had to go right NOW. That just seemed to go away without me realizing it. I can also drink caffeinated soft drinks and it doesn't bother me. I'm still amazed every time I go to a urinal and I can pee! Agree with you that this is a great surgery.
I assume you're GGW, and I mirror your timeline and observations. Great to hear from you, all the best.
they do that sugery in new albany my couisn just had it done working great. and still has his manhood in tact! start with louisville hospitals. god luck
Do you think depending on a catheter for 8 years gives you greater chance of being incontinent forever?
I'd say that was a good question for your Doctor. I was cathed for 6 months before my HoLep and have had an amazing recovery
Dr Debianco in Gainesville, FL at Shand's Hospital. Just had Holep done by him with no complications. Great doctor. Very friendly and good at what he does.
