What has your bladder been like since the surgery (as it was so stretched out/) Did anything have to be done to the bladder and how have your kidneys responded? Thanks.

Nate, I don't know how the bladder is like now compare to before, since I haven't recovered completely. The differences I can feel now are, my bladder can hold more water, every time after urinate the bladder seemed emptied, I can hold longer, have better control. Since the lower part still certain degree of sensitive, some times still feel urge to pee with smaller volume. I hope soon I can be totally recovered, then I can have better judgement. This morning I had two quarter size clots out with urine, hope this will be done soon.

Hey Ben. Nate here. I’m glad I have someone on here to compare experiences. Still have little clots. Usually at the beginning. No wonder my urine is still pink. But I over did it today. I drove myself to the doctor due to UTI. 30 mins there. Sat in lab on hard chair. 30 mins back. Stopped to see one of the grandkids. Played with her. Just a bunch of stuff and then tonight, Urine is darker and little red clots. Don’t know about you but I keep re-reading the discharge paperwork and it covers all this, plus what happens if you over do it. I was hoping for better. I guess I’m not a patient person. But I’m going to have to go a little easier and increase the water. I’m looking forward to talking to Miller’s PA. That’s 25 days away. My wife says I sound like Eeyore. Yep.

Oh and the wife also reminds me that Dr Miller told her in my recovery that it would be 13 weeks to complete healing. I think we just started week 3. Got a ways to go.

I am in Kansas. Northwester was easy to get an appointment for me, since I did not have insurance and did not need a referral for my doctor. Other places were a pain in the neck. Vanderbilt requires insurance. Mayo Clinic requires a referral and more expensive insurance (does not take Medicare Advantage).

Mayo Clinic does not require a COVID test. Baylor Scott & White, in Temple Texas, does not require a COVID test and accepts Medicare Advantage.

Northwestern (Dr Krambeck) accepted my ultrasound done at my local hospital and a few records (PSA test, urine culture, current condition - retention). For me a Cystoscopy is not necessary because of my prostate size of 100 ml, age 74, and in retention for one year. She does a Cystoscopy (checks for bladder stones) after being sedated for the surgery. Yeah.

Dr Nicole Miller is 2nd on my list. Dr Humphreys is 3rd. Dr Fernando Sancha in Madrid Spain is 4th.

This is Nate. Good for you. You will not be sorry. How far out is your procedure? Wish you well.

I went to Northwestern for a HOLEP with Dr. Krambeck. Dr. Krambeck was always my first choice but I did consider Dr. Miller. However Dr. Miller more testing without explanation of the need for them, and two long trips to Vanderbilt. I was very pleased with my hospital care at Northwestern, and the surgery by Dr. Krambeck went very well. One day after surgery I have some dysuria, and after urinating I have a few drops.

In July 2023. I will not have insurance until July.
I have time to look for another doctor. Maybe I can
find a situation more to my liking. I've heard the
COVID test is not safe and can give a false positive.

How was the COVID test? Unpleasant? No problem?
Any reaction to it later? Did they try to touch your brain?
Headache?

My experience with Mayo Clinic was similar.
They wanted me to go there for a lot of testing
and then come back later for the surgery (probably).
Northwestern, Dr Krambeck, accepted my local
ultrasound of my prostate, PSA test results and
urine culture. I did not have to go to Chicago for
that. Only one trip needed, for the surgery, 5-7 day
stay in a hotel.

Nate, I didn't update for the past week. Last week I didn't see much difference, the minor bleeding come and go, and saw tiny clots couple of times. It gets better in recent two days. I still have little leaking, and very light pink some times, but over all, it towards more and more clear. I will keep drinking more water until it gets completely cleared. Other than that, everything else seemed fine. I am almost came back to normal activities, except heavy lifting.. Tomorrow will be exact 3 weeks after surgery, I hope it's not be back and forth for any longer. I've booked flight for 2/28 follow up visiting, will share the experience with you each other. How is everything you are doing?

This is Nate. My experience is similar. I did see an increase in blood recently, but that seems to correlate if I am out in the car running errands. Plus I cleaned our pool and I probably need to slow it back down. I sent a message to Dr Millers PA and described where I am after 3 weeks and she the progress was normal and basically be patient. I did start taking calcium, D3, K1, and magnesium supplements to support the clotting mechanism. And increase the water intake.

Also, not sure if you’ve located it, but Dr Millers’ operative notes are on the Vanderbilt app. I found her detailed description very interesting. What she was able to accomplish is amazing. I was a little worse off than I imagined and thanks to her God given skill I seemed to be on the road to recovery. You might like to read yours.

I didn’t think you were going to make the return visit. I will be in Nashville for my visit on the 27th. Hope all continues to go well with you.
