I have slipped into a really nasty habit. As of late, I have been drinking one and a half bottles of wine an evening, and it is affecting me, my family and even my career too. And something has to happen. IO tried to stay off the alcohol myself but apparently I am too weak willed to be able to do so. I think need some medical help. What is the best drug for alcohol withdrawal?
I have heard that many people who are recovering from alcoholism benefit from lorazepam. I am not sure if this does what you want it to do - it is not one of those drugs that makes you physically ill after consuming alcohol, but it does make your mind and body feel a lot better while you are getting used to a life without drink.

I was prescribed ativan for alcohol withdrawl and it really helped...I also take antabuse (which is the one that makes you really sick if you drink)  but I have a 4 day cycle when I drink...I can survive for 4 days but then the urge is too much, so I pop an antabuse to assure I won't drink...after a bad binge when I am really withdrawling, I need the ativan to get through it...just trying to quit all of it...good luck
