I've tried the Wal-Mart branded stuff, Kroger's stuff and Star Kist. Kroger is at the top of my list. Star Kist tastes too much like fish.
I have gone to the foil pack, it just tastes better but I agree about starkist very fishy tasting. I especially like that I can get the foil pack without the oil.

Just somethin' about that mermaid....hmmm

Pardon my ignorance... but isn't tuna supposed to taste fishy?

I've always gotten the Star kist in spring water.

I love StarKist--I've been burned by some of the generic brands--they are a shredded, soupy mess or smell/look toooo much like cat food.

I love the spring water variety. I can eat a whole can with nothing mixed in. YUM!

I grew up on tuna fish sandwiches. Took them to school for lunch complete with mayo and never worried about the mayo sitting in my desk until noon, also never got sick from it. That was in the 40s and 50s when stuff you left outside the fridge didn't make you sick like it will today. Don't know what brand my mother bought but when my own kids came along we bought Bumble Bee by the case from the frozen food delivery truck. I bought it in the small cans packed in oil just for me. They were just the right size for a snack so I would open a can and eat the whole thing. My wife had never eaten anything but water packed and I couldn't stand it. I don't know why but she always tried to sneak in the water packed when she made my sandwich to take to work. I worked at the navy yard so I kept a small can of Dinty Moores beef stew in my desk for those occasions. I would give the water tuna sandwich to the seagulls and eat the beef stew. She also had a habit of sneaking in the mayo I didn't like (just to see if I would notice?) which also gave the seagulls a meal. Eventually the kids grew up and it wasn't practical to buy from the frozen food truck any longer as we had to purchase about twice as much as we could eat every month. I soon found that stores didn't carry oil packed so I had to use water packed. Solid white was the only kind I liked but that slowly became more like chunk light just a little less brown than what they labeled as chunk light. About 10 years ago I discovered my local Market Basket brand was a very good solid white. I kept looking for oil packed and recently found Bumble Bee has some good solid white in oil now but the oil isn't as tasty as the oil they used to use when I was a kid. I suppose the oil they used when I was a kid no longer meets the approval of some government swivel chair denizen or is politically incorrect.

Chicken of the Sea is good.

Most times we get the generic though.

Chicken of the sea? There's no chickens in the sea... chickens on the land, fish in the sea!!
