I just got a bilateral bunionectomy last Monday ..so it has been a week. My big toes hurt...are numb and they hurt more than the incision area. I didnt get pins in my toes. I was walking with the cast boots from the first day. I wasnt told to ice them...My toes feel as if the skin was pulled too tight...anybody else feel that? The doctor told me I would be off for 3 weeks.....the info I have read from this sight is it is much longer BUT maybe that is because most people have pins placed in their toes? The anesthetic has made me very sick to my stomach.....or maybe I caught soemthng from the hospital.'
I would welcome ANY response.
Thanks

Yes, my toe hurt like the devil for the first 8 days or so after bunion surgery.
Use ice constantly, it will reduce swelling and tissue damage.....whenever you are sitting, ice your feet.
On my 4-5 day post op I was very sick to my stomach, I think it was the antibiotic and the pain med (although I only took 1/2 pill at night). I switched to Tylenol and took Pepto bismol for my tummy and was much better.
Try to limit your activity to bed to chair and bathroom only.
My entire foot feels like the skin is pulled too tight....very uncomfortable...so I ice them and sit down and they are better.
I'm 13 days post op just one foot...I can't imagine both feet. You poor dear!

Hello Everyone, I am thinking about having bunion and hammer toe surgery. On my right foot, the big toe is moving underneath my second toe (almost one-fourth already) and I can't run anymore. The left foot is on its way. I have a good health plan but can the health insurance company claim it was a pre-existing condition? Can they approve it and then not approve after some kind of audit? Does anyone know how much such an operation cost (per foot) rough estimate? I don't want to have it approved and then find out I have to pay the hospital and surgery bill. Any advice or comments? Thanks. Agonizing over the Surgery and Recovery
Hi, I'm just wondering if you had this done, it sounds like you were in the same position as i am in right now.
I have really flat feet, i love to run and im very active but this has kindof ceased because of my foot problems. My podiatrist/podiatric surgeon says i need my bunion on my left foot (at the ball of my foot) removed and i have 2 hammer toes on each foot( 2nd and third toes on both) that need to be fixed. what was your experience with this?

uhm i got a question i will be getting this surgery in about 3 weeks and im a teenager and i want to know since you have healed and walking now. Are the scars ugly? like will my feet look normal when i wear flip flops in the summer?
I'm 22 and i had this surgery in November 2012. I'm sorry to tell you, yeah my scars are butt ugly. I'm sure that it depends on the doctor you have though. Also, I haven't done anything to try to get rid of the scars. I've heard that there are things you can do for them.
My feet do feel better though. I'm very active and I run a lot, it made a big difference for me. The only thing that lingers still is that I can't feel my toes the same way that I used to be able to. Odd, but not a problem.
