How completely bizaare! I started having a bitter after-taste after eating about 4 days ago googled it. I actually scoffed a bag of pinenut on the weekend. Who would have thought? Thanks
Thanks everyone, I am based in the UK and I used to buy massive bags of pine nuts from Costco's and never had any problems eating them. However last week I bought a bag of mixed nuts from Julian Greeves and indeed the pine nuts in the mix were much smaller that the ones I used to get at Costco's.

I've had bitter taste in my mouth since, and it feels horrible! I tried brushing my teeth more regularly, and it just feels worse! Just had an orange and almost had to spit it out.

This is a serious issue as people might waste so much time going to their doctors, taking time off work to see a specialist, and then realise it was just a matter of few nuts.
I have just googled 'bitter taste after eating' and looked on this website. We had a pinenut dip (which is lovely) from Waitrose on Sunday and today (Tuesday) I have a bitter taste in my mouth after eating, I too found bread base the worst. I've eaten this dip and pine nuts before and never had this, I wonder why it has happened now? Glad to hear it goes in a week though!
I have the same bitter aftertaste, strongest after meals, and I too love pine nuts and have been eating more of them lately. But interestingly enough, I think it was hummus itself that triggered this one - I ate way too much hummus one night a week ago, and the next day and thereafter I've had the bitter taste. I've got to check the ingredients list when I get home to see if there were possibly any pine nuts IN the hummus.
Who knows?
Glad to have found this site.
I too have the same symptoms, ate pine nuts for the first time on Saturday and Sunday night my taste changed… nothing tasted right. Then Monday morning I woke up with this bitter taste in the back of my mouth that will not go away… this is strange. What is going on with pine nuts? I hope this does not last long. I read that pine nuts are used to curb the appetite, if this is what they are referring to it works! :'(
thank you for the posts.

I'm having the same symptoms now ( ate some pine nuts about two
days ago ) and here we are ...../ the same problem.
I guess it's better to buy organic pine nuts ?? maybe?? %-)
The taste is really nasty....could not figure out what it was....it makes my throat burn also.....it is worse after eating bread, but won't go away even if you gargle mouthwash and take mints.....yuck! Are all pine nuts bad like this or only the ones from China? Why don't we have health standards for products imported from foreign countries....it is just a matter of time before something very tragic will happen.....like a plague or something. What good is the Food and Drug Administration, if we import stuff that is poison or contains dangerous chemicals? Wish someone had a cure for this awful taste.....it is just terrible. I thought I had some awful disease....
Ate pine nuts on Tuesday night. By Thursday morning, I had a horrible, metal, bitter taste in my mouth that seemed to be made worse when I ate anything sweet. My nutrition therapist suggested eating something acidic (lemons, limes, etc.) and drinking water to relieve some of the symptoms. This allowed me to at least get through a meal without having the full metallic taste in my mouth. I think this helped, because by Saturday night, my symptoms seemed a lot milder.
I made some hummus for a New Years Eve Party and included some toasted pine nuts as garnish. Ate quite a bit myself, and now two days later everything I eat leaves a horrible bitter taste in the back of my mouth. Agree that bread is one of the worst. The only thing that doesn't bother me is water. Thought I was going crazy until I found this, and now I'm just disturbed. I love pine nuts and have been eating them for years, and this is a totally new experience. I'm afraid to eat them ever again. The pine nuts I used were purchased from Trader Joes and the package states "product of Korea, Russia or Vietnam" My main concern at this point is how long this will last. Most posts mention about a week, but is this conclusive? And what actually causes the reaction??? Does anyone know more?
I made pesto a couple days ago and used pine nuts I just bought from Trader Joes (also from Russia or Korea.)

This morning my first bite of cereal was so bitter and nasty I almost threw out the cereal until I realized everything I tasted left a bitter nasty flavor in my mouth. Thank god for this forum thread; I was worried that the bitter taste might be a symptom of something really bad.

I will return the pine nuts to Trader Joes, and I will be interested in learning if any other bags of pine nuts have been returned.

thanks everyone! hope your taste buds return to normal soon.
I also bought pine nuts from Trader Joe's and both my husband and I have experienced the bitter taste in our mouths. We are on day 4 and still have this horrible taste. I will be returning the nuts to Trader Joe's tomorrow.
OK - I'm so glad I found this site!! I have had a bitter taste in my mouth for 2 days and have eaten pine nuts we put in an Orzo salad. This has got to be it!! I really don't know what else it could be other than reading that ulcers can cause a bitter taste as well - and God knows with all my worrying I could have my ulcer back!! Thanks everyone!!
I am so glad I happened upon this site. I too have been experiencing the a bitter taste on the back of my tongue after eating. I do believe it is the pine nuts as I have been munching on a bag of dry toasted ones lately. Boy, for a minute I thought something was wrong with me!
I have been worrying why I have a bitter taste in my mouth after eating or drinking anything. I have a lining on the back of my tongue too that doesn't look too healthy, so I have been using a mouth wash thinking it is a mouth infection. I ate an "Extra Strong Mint" about 3 days ago that seemed to have kicked it off but ur message has made me focus on eating nuts. I have just examined a mixed nuts packet I bought last weekend and sure enough it contains pine nuts. I wonder if the sharp intake of sugar mixed with pine nuts is the cause? Anyway, I am glad I am not alone and I wont be panicking so much to get my Will and Testament written in a rush. I will lay off eating the rest of the packet of seeds and nuts!
OMG I can't even believe that when I googled my symptoms it would bring me here and I would get the craziest answer, BUT IT IS TOTALLY TRUE! Last week (after NEVER having bought them before) I decided to get Pine nuts & soynuts (the soy I've had alot) and mix them together. This week the symptoms started. I realized it only happened when I ate or drank so I began to think there was heavy soap residue from my dishwasher. I THOUGHT MY FAMILY WAS BEING SLOWLY POISONED!! Even though when I asked my kids they said they couldn't taste it, I just thought I was just more ATUNNED--ha. Seriously, so convinced was I that I physically took a fresh clean plate from my cupboard and LICKED it! Of course, no bitter taste. Finally I googled it. I was like, "What?? I have pine nuts ON my counter RIGHT NOW! PINE NUTS!!!! Pine nuts have never traveled so quickly to the garbage in the history of man!
