Though it's taken me a while to remember to do this, I wanted to follow-up for future visitors. My symptoms popped up approximately two days after eating some pine nuts this past New Year's Eve. At first I was pretty upset, but in trusting my instincts, I ate very meagerly those first few days, and drank lots of water and green tea. After four days the horrible taste was nearly gone and by the time a week had passed I was back to normal. I recovered pretty quickly, and I don't know if it had to do with the lack of food/abundance of water/tea, but I would recommend trying something to this affect.
Eat Pine Nuts on Sunday, I had them Toasted and raw, My wife had them toasted only. Tuesday, I was goggling "Bitter Taste in Mouth" and found this forum. It is now Friday and I still have it.
It's awful!
I have called Trader Joe's, emailed the LA Times, and called/faxed the state agency that oversees food safty.
My pine nuts are from Trader Joes, product of Korea, Russia, or Vietnam, Best by Dec. 9, 2009.
I kept them in the re fridge in a zip lock bag.
I hope this helps the next person.
Thanks to everyone that posted

Another victims of pine nuts. I actually knew before eating them what can happen, so the joke is on me. I experience bitter taste in my mouth while my husband reports more of a metallic taste. I told him not to eat my pine nuts...
Nuts were purchased from Trader Joes in Portand, OR, product of Korea, Russia, or Vietnam, Best by Dec. 7, 2009.
I have finished entire bag (raw) over few weeks and the symptoms actually started on the second one. I have noticed that the nuts in the second bag are more "brittle" and easily squished between fingers. But at that point I already ate one package and figured if anything was to happen it would happen by now. Well again, joke is on me.
In my case the sour flavor turns bitter. Looks like there is no scientific explanation of the pine nuts taste disturbance effect. Well . hopefully it goes away soon!

Thanks to this site I think I may have found the cause of the bitter after food taste in my mouth. I hardly ever eat pine nuts and love them. Last week I bought some for the first time in ages and keep them in my fridge occasionally eating a few. Who would have thought these innocent delicious little nuts would cause such symptoms? Weird world. Well done to the person who first noted this - I thought you were slightly off your head until I read other contributors comments.
I just started eating pine nuts in salad because Consumer Reports said pine nuts, sunflower seeds and pistachios had something to fight cholesterol with. I did pine nuts in salad 2 days in a row and the 2nd morning I started having the bitter taste with food, which continues today (day 3). I will stop the pine nuts and see if this goes away.
Who knew?

Me toooooooooo! God I can't believe it was pine nuts! I thought it was either a leaking filling or stomach acid problem. Weird.
Today is the 2nd day and still have bitter after taste in my mouth after eating or drinking anything. Decided to google it and came across this threat (thank God), I feel a little bit better. As I was contemplating going to see my GP tomorrow. But so many people have had the same symptons through eating these pine nuts and so we can't all be wrong. Mine were bought as a salad mix in a bag from Lidl's supermarket. Never again. I just went in the cupboard and threw the rest of them in the kitchen bin. I also called tried to warn other people I know who have eatthem too but have not had the same problem yet. I must admit, I've eaten the Tesco's ones and some from other health food shops without any problems, until I at the Lidl's pine nuts. Well never again, I say. Just waiting for the taste in my mount to right itself.
wow!!! Its the PINE NUTS!! Can't believe it. So glad it's nothing to serious!! Off now to empty the jar in the bin.
I ate some pine nuts I purchased from Trader Joes, and have had a horrible bitter/metallic taste at the back of my throat ever since. I cannot begin to express my thanks to all who posted at this site . . . the pine nuts from Trader Joes are now history!!
And one more victim of nasty pine nuts........BUT WHAT IS THE CAUSE?!!!! Have we been poisoned by a chemical, pesticide, herbicide, contaminant, cleaner, WHAT? Any long term consequences or health risks? And why is TJs still selling these? I bought mine this week and this blog has been going for 2 months!!!!!!
Okay, my taste disturbance is all but gone now. Ate pine nuts Sunday dinner (from Trader Joes, TucsonAZ), noticed bitter/metallic taste Tuesday AM (thought breakfast had turned rancid), threw out lunch — too disgusting, bad tastes all Tuesday through Wednesday. Googled Wednesday afternoon and found this and another thread, where someone suggested Alpha Lipoic, a supplement (antioxidant). Wednesday evening I bought Alpha Lipoic (at the health food store) and took it once Wed (100mg) and 3 times Thurs. (200 mg each). Dinner Thurs. night was good — I enjoyed the food (beets and pasta) and only had slight bitterness after swallowing. Food is good today (Fri.). If anything, there is only very slight hint of bitterness a minute or so after eating, then it dissipates. Not sure if its the antioxidant, a placebo effect, or my metabolism, but mine lasted 3 days.
This is great! I too have had a metallic taste in my mouth. It first happened after eating at a lunch buffet in NYC - the kind place that gets shut down every few months by the health department after finding something other than chicken in the chicken teriyaki. It is good and cheap. So I ate lunch as weak or so ago and had a terrible taste in my mouth. I went back to the buffet and told them one of their dishes was bad.
When I go home I called the emergency room and talked to a nurse - since I was not vomiting, there was not much they could do. I have bean waiting for the weakness and dizziness to overcome me as a I was sure I had some heavy metal poisoning that would kill me. I have been drinking bentonite and taking homeopathic arcenicum album - both are good for food poisoning. The bentonite gives me gas. Wanting to stay close to home in my final days, I have tried to make myself comfortable. I have safe food cooked by my loving and concerned wife. I have been eating her leftover spinach pie for the last week - pie with pine nuts.

What a relief! I just made a wonderful Isreali Couscous with pinenuts. Guess I'll have to toss that recipe! Thanks for clearing this up for me.
AHA.....I TOO ate pine nuts a few days ago and IMMEDIATELY I started experiencing a bitter after taste in my mouth while/immediately after eating food (and drink too). I haven't had pinenuts in years. What an odd thing...........
Same thing here. Started eating some pine nuts from Trader Joes this week. No effect on my wife, but I have a bitter taste in the mount after eating anything now. I have not had this effect from pine nuts other organic food stores though. No more of these fro Joes I guess.
