Wow, first of all I really want to say THANK-YOU!!!! To all who posted here. I would not have taken this seriously if there were only a couple. I was really scared:) Some of the other posts I can really relate to, like thinking my dishwasher wasn't rinsing the dishes well enough, and fearing food poisoning, and diabetes. I bought my pine nuts from the bulk section at Winco. Made a really tasty pesto and used it for a pizza sauce. Then had the left over pizza for a couple of days:) It was really good!! But now I guess I will pay for that for about a week it seems. I do hope there are no long term negative effects. Don't know if I can trust pine nuts again! Thanks again.
This is probably acix reflux disease. Sound like it
LOL just did a google search for "bitter taste in mouth after eating" and this forum came up. I've been stuffing my face with pine nuts in the last week! I don't believe it, that's so weird!!!!
This is caused by the way the pine nuts was processed. I was born and brought up in China. Pine nuts were always bitter. They were sold as sugar covered candies. The thousand years of process method couldn’t prevent the contamination from the taste of pine corn. Since in most cases, bitter taste from the natural food is from Vitamin C, Chinese people live with the taste. They choose bitter melon and tea for the same reason. It prevents the sour taste in the mouth after eating food, and lower your expectation for sweets.
After I came to US, I was surprised to find out that pine nuts are actually a little sweet. We need to help them to improve the process in China by our technology. The bitter taste we feel may not be an issue over there.

Thankyou for this site and to all who have posted = very grateful as I was starting to worry about this condition. I'm surprised that pine nuts can cause such a strong and long lasting nasty bitter aftertaste such as what I've been experiencing these last couple of days after having pinenuts with my lunch on Friday. What I can't understand is I've been eating them for years and never had this before. I'm going to try the Alpha Lipoic as suggested by a previous post. Thank you again.
Its also caused by eating sweet chinese bread.....
like the rest of these people i also ate the pine nut. five days ago i had about 2 tablespoons on a dish of pasta, the following day ate the same amount on more pasta. 4 days have gone by and the aftertaste is diminishing, but still there. wonder if i can ever eat them again.
I also have been eating Pine Nuts recently. My wife bought a bag from BJ's Warehouse club on Friday. I have been eating some everyday since she bought them - today is Tuesday. On Sunday morning, I started tasting a bitter taste in the back of my tongue that would not go away. Couldn't figure out what it was. I tried tongue brushing with toothpaste and tongue-scraping, every few hours, which both helped temporarily, but the bitter taste was constant.
I even had some pine nuts after dinner last night, and for some strange reason the bitter taste significantly decreased as of this morning. It's almost gone now. Could I be getting used to them?
I saw a previous post mention that sweet chinese bread also causes bitter taste. My wife and I have both eaten sweet chinese bread in the past few days. Go figure. She has also had pine nuts but not had the bitter taste as bad as I have.

Does anyone know if the Chicken Salad that Costco sells with all the grapes and walnuts have pine nuts in it? Thats the only thing i ate this week that has nuts.
Wow. My wife and I started to have a weird bitterness in the mouth problem for a long 5 days now. I could not figure it out, what that was from. It got severely worse by eating with green chile or Kombucha.
The weird thing was that the simple sugar would make the bitterness worse. But Xylitol and maple syrup wouldn't.
For my case, I almost lost sense of taste.
Anyhow, I hope it will be back soon, and no more Pine Nuts from China/Vietnam/Russia for now.
This maybe a good way to lose weight!

I, too, had a bitterness after eating or drinking anything (except water). I thought I had some weird condition. Found this site and remembered that I had made a great dish with...... PINENUTS!!!! About two days after eating it is when I started with the bitter taste. I feel so much better reading all of these posts. Thank you.
Yep, after checking this out I had the same symptoms and could not figure it out. I have had it for a few days now and was getting worried. I too just opened a package of pine nuts my wife purchased at Sam's last week. Diamond brand. I ate a handful or so and thought nothing of it as I have eaten them like this in the past. Not Diamond Brand, however. Hopefully the bitterness goes away soon it is aweful.
I'm the latest victim of the pinenuts!!! I'm so glad I found this forum!! Thanks everyone!! And steer clear from M&S pine nuts :-)
