My son, who is nine, hit his head really hard while playing football. One of the boys accidentally tripped him, he fell and hit the back of his head. He was taken home immediately, cried a bit and nothing else. We placed ice on his head to prevent bruises, and everything was all right, no complaints. But this morning he started complaining that he couldn’t see things. From his words I realised that he was seeing things blurry. This is all he’s been complaining about. Is blurred vision after fall dangerous? Should we take him to the doctor?
I advise you to take your son to the doctor immediately. Blurred vision after any head injury can be a sign of serious damaging of the brain. Any kind of hard blow on the head can cause small blood vessels in the brain and around it to tear and bleed, or can damage the brain by removing it from its place or in any other way. Together with nausea and/or vomiting, headaches, difficulties in walking, talking, concentrating, memory and feeling dizzy, blurred vision is a certain sign of changes in the skull after the fall or blow. Although it is usually accompanied with other symptoms of concussion (a really hard blow can shake up the brain), haematoma (the blood from a torn vessel leaks and presses the brain) or any other disorder, blurred vision is enough troubling and must be followed by a thorough check.
