I have the same problem 10 years after surgery .. hurts to walk any distance
how are you doing now it's been over a year since you wrote this I just had the same surgery and I'm curious if you would consider your surgery a success. Thanks, Tammy

I should say, since it may not be clear, that I had a bone spur removed from the big joint of my big toe... would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has had this surgery to know how it turned out for them as well thank you. I've read some of these experiences of others my experience after my surgery I've been able to walk on my foot immediately it has not been a painful experience unless I try to bend my toe then it it is painful but I was able to walk right away after my surgery but I kept my leg elevated for the first 5 days and then I went back to work and I do house cleaning for a living which I've been able to do but I am wearing the black boot which he said I would have to be in for 4 to 6 weeks I took the pain meds for the first two days and then I didn't need them after that he use dissolvable stitches I went back in 2 weeks he took out on the ends of the incision to stitches but the rest will dissolve on their own so far this has not been a bad experience but I don't know how it's going to be in the end if the healing process if the complete healing will be satisfactory that's my concern will I'll be able to wear normal shoes heels and not have pain
I to had the spurs removed 4 weeks ago and was told I could go back to work after 2 weeks I'm on my 4 th week off and the pain is still not great it swells if I over do it and I get a lot of pain in the joint ... my surgent also did propair me for any of this I'm getting so fed up now as I wouldnt have had it done if i new id still be off work or unable to walk about ... its getting me down im still wearing the hospital sandal as it's to swollen for my normal shoes ...i still can't bend my toes I'm having to walk on the side of my foot which is pulling my ankle :-( .... so I understand how u feel
I had the bone spur removal surgery on May 1st I am still having a problem bending my great toe and it is still swollen, can not fit into my shoes. The pain is not to bad. Has anyone that has had this procedure had the swelling and for how long did it last?
I had bone spurs on my right toe removed a week ago yesterday. Like you I have had no pain at all and feels so much better than before I had it done even with stitches in. Stitches come out in another week and 2 days. Can't wait. Hope I can wear a shoe after stitches come out! Wish I would have done this sooner. I suffered for almost 3 years.
I just had a bone spur on my big toe removed 7-3-17 and 70% of my cartilage is gone I will have to go back in 5 years or more and have a joint replacement done to it. I went home that day in a boot (the same one with two straps across it). I left that day with weight bearing as tolerated. Went back on that Friday for my first follow up and go back in 10 days to have my stitches removed and first therapy but I've been doing my ROM daily with my toe. My pain hasn't been bad at all compared to what it was before surgery. I have drove a little and the first time was a little uncomfortable. When I'm sitting down I do have it up on 2 pillows and I put ice on it so I haven't had hardly any swelling. At my post op visit he said I had hardly any swelling, no drainage, no redness and it was healing very good.
My Dr said the same thing g...oh you'll walk out of here after the surgery. I left with no crutches or anything. That night, I could hardly crawl to the bathroom. I had surgery 3 months ago and hurt worse now than before the surgery. I feel like I was lied to
I have bone spur on top of my foot about the same place. Hurts all the time especially since at my job I'm on my feet all the time. Podiatrist says it'll never feel good w/o bone spur surgery. Asked some friends they say they hear healing time is forever. I started Googling it it and found this page now I'm scared to death and think maybe living with the pain I'm in is better than the surgery potentially making it worse? :/ what did you decide to do and how's that working for you?
I had one spur removed. Its been 7 mo. and I am still in pain, still swollen, and can only wear a converse shoe tied tightly in order to do any amount of walking. I'm frustrated and disappointed. Now the Dr want to inject cortisone, because the pills did nothing. Good luck. I haven't read any success stories.
It sounds like your surgery was almost identical to the surgery I just had almost 3 weeks ago. I am very disappointed in the information my surgeon provided also.
I live alone and was very unprepared. They sent me home from the hospital with crutches. I have autoimmune related arthritis, so crutches are out of the question. I crawled around my house for a week until a friend came up with her garden cart that was brand mew and had a seat I could sit on and pull myself around on.
I went to my two week post op appointment and was told I could ditch the boot and was fitted with a surgical shoe. They said start walking heel to toe...ha ha, and start doing exercises when laying down, writing the alphabet with my foot,
The problem: I can't even move my toes. I can't walk heel to toe.
I can barely do my everyday chores.
Now my foot is shiny and looks like its starting to crack. The color is still bluish and swells daily.
Is this normal?

Hi Elizabeth
I had two operations on the same big toe. The first was in 2015 when the spur was removed and soft tissue was placed in the joint. Visually it looked fine and healed quickly but a year later I was still feeling constant pain when walking. Consequently, I had a further operation in 2016 to lose the joint and fuse the bones.
Almost two years after the second operation I still have pain when walking. Like you, I would never have had the operation had I known the discomfort.
I hope your pain has gone now but I think I'm stuck with mine forever!

I had a cheilectomy in both toes in 2012. One worked fine and by 8 weeks was pain free with good movement. The other they had had to drill those little holes to create scar tissue. But that was still bad 6 months on - they then did forced manipulation under a GA. Then another 9 months on I had a fusion which was wonderful - 12 weeks on crutches non weight bearing but perfect outcome. The other has lasted 6 years with no more bother but now is in agony. I do wish they would just stop mucking around and just do a fusion to begin with. Good luck all you other foot folks. x Jan
Mine was pretty much the same story.. Cheilectomy in 2009, still pain, tried an implant in 2011, plus later manipulation under GA, and finally opted to remove implant and have fusion in 2013. Been fine ever since..I would recommend fusion too.
I had a bone spur removed from my big toe 6 weeks ago. The surgery was really no big deal, and I didn't suffer much pain afterwards. They gave me perfects, but I didn't need them. Quite frankly, I couldn't feel much of anything in my foot for a few weeks. I still have spots where the sensation hasn't come back.
I am able able to get shoes on, but have only attempted flats. The problem I have though, is that if I wear shoes for an entire day, (mind you, they are wide width sneakers), I am in excrutiating pain for 2 days afterwards. And not where the incision is or anything, but in the entire ball of my foot. I came to this board in the hopes of finding out how long this might last. I have lots of cute shoes that are screaming to be worn, and I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to wear anything but flip flops and sneakers?????
