I've was diagnosed with having costochondritis as well - my pains started 15 months ago. There are certain pressure points around my rib cage (on both sides) that are extremely sensitive when pressed. Above my breasts, to the sides (where the underwire bra sits) and underneath my breasts. Sometimes it acts up and the pain is felt even if I don't touch these points, pain I feel when I breathe, when I get up from bed, even when I roll over can be extremely painful. I have a cold now and when I cough I have to hold my chest because of the pain.
The most painful point is on my right side above the breast and this pain can be felt right through to my back. I told my doc it's like someone is sticking a skewer through the front of my chest straight through my back.
I have also been experiencing shortness of breath when going up stairs for awhile now.
I did some research online and found that underwire bras aggravate the symptoms so I invested in some without and stopped wearing underwire ones completely. The sharp pains went away within 2 days and all I felt for awhile was the slight pain when I pressed the 6 pressure points around the ribcage.
But two months ago the pains came back with a vengeance. I had joined a gym and got a personal trainer and found that a lot of the exercises I did (push ups, plank pose, some of the gym machines) aggravated the pain but I ignored them and continued my training. Even the ypga I did early this year caused the symptoms to get worse which is terrible as it means I am scared to exercise now.
I'm 50 with a family history of heart problems so I went to the cardiologist and ruled my heart out. I also went to a chest specialist and she was not really able to help me at all.
Cataflam helps with the pain but I do not want to take anti-inflammatories for the rest of my life so I need to know what is causing the costo in the first place.
So I went to an osteopath and tested positive for Aspergillus Niger in my lungs. I am currently under treatment from him (herbal) and he says it will take 4 weeks to see a difference in the symptoms.
Now I have to find out where I am getting the mold from so that I don't keep getting infected. I hope I was able to help some of you. If you need any more information please feel free to email me.
My name is Geeta and I live on the beautiful island of Barbados :)

Look up Costocondritis. I have had this for years. You must take a pain killer and rest a bit to help the pain go away. It seems to get worse as I get older....mostly in my chest and rib cage. Back can be sporadic. Good luck.
I am having the exact same symptoms for the last 3 months. I have has an upper Endoscopy, a normal ultrasound, an endoscopic ultrasound and a chest x ray. All clear! At first I thought I was having a heart attack with a shooting stitch like pain under left breast. I also have a deep dull ache under my let shoulder blade. My sternum feels bruised and tender. Sometimes I feel like my throat is closing and my swallow is affected. It never goes away. I am now being referred to a new consultant as they are guessing it is nerve related. I am very worried een though I have got the all clear for cancer
I have been dealing with the same pain , i had a aorta stent in my right upper arm 1 year ago , since then been to the E.R. at least 2x a week , same thing over and over , i have been scoped every 3 months , i keep a burning pain , but the doctor said no ulcers, acids , was found . they checked my heart , it was normal thank goodness . i just need them to find out my problem .
Sorry glad I'm not crazy which is hat my family and doc say I am
