Hi. Any new information on what's causing this ?

That is one sign of a detached retina. Get it checked as soon as possible.

A good warning to others. My ophthalmologist did an exam of my retinas that lasted an hour !

What did he/she find? Are you OK?

My retinas are fine. I still see light of varying intensity when my eyes are closed. I am making an appointment with a Neuro-ophthalmologist.

Thanks for asking

I am looking for the same answer. When I want to go to sleep, my room is dark, my eyes are closed. Then after my eyes are closed for a bit of time I see a bright light, sometimes its sort of orange, not pure white. It seems to creep around the right side of my right eye and then just hovers there for a while. Sometimes it goes away by itself and sometimes it startles me a little and I open my eyes. I also have something called exploding head syndrome. I actually do hear a loud explosion. Last night it was a strong sudden metallic sound. I hear electronic or static type sounds too. It creeps me out.

It happens to me a lot , it’s a spirit watching over you . Sometimes when we are sick or healing they come more .

Starting in December of 2017 I started seeing light when my eyes were closed. I went to an Ophthalmologist who checked my retinas -- they were fine. My memory also started to get bad around that time. For example, a friend & I went to a restaurant. She said we had been there a few months before. I had no memory of that. Over the next couple of weeks some memories came back. Also when I was in a very, very dark room, even after 10 minutes I still saw light.

My memory loss continued to get worse.

I don't know when I stopped seeing light.

A few months ago my memory returned to normal !

This month I started seeing light again. I have had a few memory lapses but not too bad, and staying home because of the virus hasn't helped.

I am desperate for information -- I'm thinking this may be a rare disorder.

Go to a neurologist

Thanks for your reply. I've already seen 2 neurologists. And may see one more. Also am trying to see another neuro-opthamologist but the last one said she couldn't do anything that the first neuro-opthamologist had already done. This appears to be a very rare condition. I am trying to see other specialists - perhaps Headache Clinic -- perhaps similar to migraine aura.

It's Nothing nasty, basically if there's a trigger this happens, your divine mind of the siyk/spirit is awake and you can see things through pinal gland like white light but by the time your going through etheric plane it's buffered so u won't remember., but you astral travelling and the start of it is white light we call the christ light, so fear not

OMGosh! Guys! Look it up before you waste a ton of money on doctors! This is very common. It's called Closed Eye Hallucinations." It is just messages from your brain, because your eyes are used to seeing things and figuring them out. When you shut down for sleep in a dark room, sometimes your eyes want to know why they don't have anything to do, so they shoot out phosphenes and biophotons. Look it up. Fascinating.

Phosphenes AND BIOPHOTONS. 100% NORMAL. It's just your eyes making stuff up since they have nothing else to do, basically.

Look it up before running to a doctor. These are called Closed Eye Hallucinations and caused by your eyes not having anything to do in the dark, so your brain shoots out phosphenes and biophotos.

I don't mind seeing light/shapes when it is dark. There is a good description in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination
It also describes " In a bright room, a dark red can be seen". I see this but only when facing the bright sun (with my eyes closed). Was really freaky.

The article only talks about these reactions through meditation. Which I do not do.

Also sometimes I see bright white light which wakes me up.

Also I don't think it's coincidence - 2x now - when I start seeing the light/shapes I also start having memory lapses and I believe some kind of sleep deprivation (perhaps REM or Deep Sleep).

I would blame the memory issues on the sleep deprivation, but they continued after the sleep deprivation resolved.

After 2 years of this my memory went back to normal !

However it has started again this January. Am not sure about memory lapses since I don't remember what I don't remember. Before pandemic people would remind me that I had met them for dinner the month before -- & I would have no memory of it.
