Hi, my father suffers from type 2 diabetes, and a doctor prescribed him byetta. I heard just good things about this drug, but I would like to hear some other experiences. Has anyone used byetta?

Hi, I used byetta for a while when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This is an injectable drug, and it looks like a pen with simple fixed dosing. Byetta is one of the drugs that mimic the effects of incretins, hormones that are released into the blood by the intestine. Incretins are important because they reduce the action of glucagon, wich leads to reduced production of glucose by the liver. I was injecting 5 mcg of byetta under my skin, twice daily. After one month of therapy, I increased the dose to 10 mcg. I started having some side effects, like nausea, diarrhea and headache, so I had to stop taking byetta. I wish I could use this drug longer, because it really started helping me with diabetes.
