What I would like to know however is how quickly cotinine show in your system. For example: if I do the usual 2day avoid-and-flush, can I have a cigarette just before the test and still pass? Or will cotinine show in my urine immediately?
Finally, a parent who follows my own heart. I too have a 15 y-o who through our great school system, has picked up chewing tobacco, the gym teacher just turns his back and thinks it is okay, so according to my son, everyone chews or smokes or does both....what is this world coming too. I also test my son every couple of days and he finally is realizing that his life is pretty much non-existent if he chooses to continue chewing. He has been clean for about 4 weeks, hopefully he continues. He has been given all his electronic devices and such back, so he seems to be on the mend. His uncle also chewed and is now in the process of the end of his life at the age of retirement.... it is not a joking matter or see who can "cheat" best on the test. There was once a thing called "morals" I am okay with my son, not "liking me" or thinking that I am "cruel", but it is truly in his best interest and is just all about "love". Be true to yourself and your body...tobacco kills.
It's not about ethics. It's not ethical to discriminate against nicotine users. Nicotine is not illegal and should not carry the weight or burden of an illegal substance in regards to hiring practices. This is a play by the health insurance companies period. And the insurance industry should be thwarted at every chance.
Did YOU pass ?
Did u pass?
sorry I just read this but compelled to reply anyway. Nicotine is a sticky substance that sticks to every cell in your body. It is like an oily substance. Chantix has no nicotine if anyone is interested in that medication for showing up as nicotine but the ingredients in Chantix can show up if it is being tested for only. Drinking to much water can make you sick to your stomach but it washes substances from your system as to how well it washes an oily, sticky substance such as nicotine depends on your body, your weight and height. Most substance can still be detected as long as 9 days out.
But truly, what do you accomplish by lying? There are risk involved for smokers having any kind of surgery more so then a non smoker by being put to sleep for a long period of time. There are higher risk of pneumonia, stroke or a heart attack then for a non smoker.
Honestly, I don't believe a doctor wants to take the risk of bypass on a smoker. Just plain quit smoking and lying.
So sorry you are going through this. Maybe you should have him volunteer on a cancer ward at a hospital. Maybe if he was around the consequences, it might open his eyes.
You could enter your family in a 5k for lung cancer. You don't have to run in it. You could volunteer to pass water at a water station, help set up for the race, etc. You could go to The American Lung Association web site to find out things you could have him do. That site is cancer.org. Good Luck. I started smoking at a very young age and wish I hadn't. I'm done now. The job I'm applying for doesn't hire smokers. I'm an RN and should know better.
Suggesting that smoking doesn't cause cancer is pure insanity. Watch Johnny Carson's bio, look how many actors dies of COPD and lung cancer through the early 2000s and who smoked. Check with the guy from my Saturday morning group who just died of brain cancer with the gravelly deep voice from smoking, and ask his friends how he looked the last couple of weeks.
Some people may be judging smokers, I don't know, but it's folly to hide behind that. It seems to me more like people are saying, why not just quit rather than cheat the test, live longer, feel better, be healthy. Value the people who love you by not dying early on them because it made you feel better to light up now and then. Yes, your surgery is likely to not go as well if you smoke, and your recovery will not go as well, and if your doc doesn't test you, you could try to use him for not informing you of that.
Smokers, people are trying to help you, not hurt you. Most people realize how difficult it can be to quit smoking, and anyone who doesn't is kidding themselves. But people quit every single day, and live longer because of it.
Anyone who says smoking doesn't cause cancer is either living in some fantasy world, or works for the tobacco lobby. Yes, smoking causes cancer. Move on, it's 2014.
I smoked for many years and often worry I'll die on my loving partner because of it, or won't be able to hike, climb, run, even walk one day due to it. See those guys with the little oxygen tanks and the walkers? They're your future unless you do something today.
If you want to know how long you have to quit to pass a test, that's fine. No problem. Valid question. But think about the reasons that test is being given and whether you want to continue doing something that is horrible for your health. Seeing someone die from lung cancer is one of the ugliest things you can imagine, except for actually being that person.
Ask all the questions you want, get around all the tests you want if you must, but don't believe the hype. Smoking causes cancer and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to kill you
I won't say I "know" but I would say that almost certainly is not the case. If you failed specifically for cotinine then it was in the urine, if not, then it was probably the wrong temperature.
What is the address.. wont show and I would love to try it!!!
Don't come on here and lecture people. It is rude! Just quitting isn't an option when you have a cotinine test in 3 days and it stays in your system for 30. It is too late to tell us to quit so please go to another thread and spread your judgments. I am so angry that I even have to waste time reading post like this. I need to get the cotinine out of my system so I can pass a stupid nicotine test that I didn't know about. Had I know I would have purchased 0% nicotine for my e cigarette. Now, I may not be able to finish a master's program because I smoke an e-cigarette a couple of times a day. Ridiculous! So please save your lectures for people who want to hear them, not for people who are on here for advice about how to get it out of their system so their livelihood isn't ruined!!
So, if there is anyone who can tell me how to pass this test. I will not strap my 5 year olds urine to my leg either. I quit smoking regular cigarettes over a month ago, I have been vaping between 6% and 12% nicotine and realize this will show up on a test. Are there any cleansers out there so that I can pass this darn thing...probably end of next week?
When I was in high school I had a friend whose parents did this to their daughter. She rebelled further and ended up a meth/heroine addict who had to live in a rehab center on and off for years. Her parents blamed everyone else as well. Tell me do you have bars on his windows and an alarm on your house so he is jailed? You will lose this battle. The more you push the worse he will get! Smarten up! Show him respect and believe me he will respect you. Talk to him. He can learn to trick your tests unless of course you sit and watch him pee....and that is just wrong. He is not 5 he is 15 and deserves privacy while he urinates. You are doing more harm than good. I feel so sorry for him. You need help with your obsessive addiction. Seek counseling!
