My grandfather has problems with kidneys for as long as I know him. He has these hemodialysis treatments every week and I can see that his way of life is causing him great harm. He said to me once that his skin itches a lot from time to time. Can kidney problems effect skin? Is there any help there for him? Or will he have to endure it for the rest of his life?
I must tell you that many patients, suffering from kidney illnesses complain on the same thing your grandfather do. This itching occurs more during treatment and immediately after. There is no definite cure. Not just for those with kidney problems, but for everyone that suffers from itching. I suppose that is just the way it is. Sorry.

Hello there blayne,

Unfortunately this is a condition that rarely can be treated because there is no really cause of the itching. Sometimes, actually most of the times, therapies such as hemodialysis are causing itching of the skin and mostly after and during the treatment.

Your grandfather could visit his dermatologist just to see if there is any solution to this problem or at least some kind of cream which is going to relieve itching sensation.

Besides that I don’t know is there any other possible treatment. Maybe if the dermatologist finds out that the cause is something else your father is going to be able to do something about the itching. I hope you will find a solution.
