I just had mine removed today bc of bad acne...did yours get better after removing?
Omg, your symptoms couldn't be more similar than mine. It will be five years this March of 2015, and have been breaking out after the second year of having the Mirena. At first I was convinced it was probably my eating habits or other things. But now I have had this an ongoing issue.
I'm planning on doing the same thing but not sure what other means of birth control I want to use. Scarred from my experience with the IUD. What kind of birth control pill do you use now?
This is what I'm dealing with too!!! Back acne like crazy dry hair swollen tender nipples mood swings pms and it's taking a toll on me in everyway. Thank you for sharing. My Mirena has been in for about 8 months.
I had the Mirena for four years and just got it removed. I did not make the connection with the IUD and acne until a friend suggested it and I researched my questions. I have been without it less than two weeks and I am amazed at how my face is clearing up! I had cyst type acne along with regular pimples on my forehead, chin, upper lip area and right beside my nose. The acne was really bothering me and made me feel bad about myself. My 13 year old had a clearer face than me!! But since my face started clearing up RIGHT after the Mirena was removed......there you go!
I am almost 3 years in to my mirena and I feel like a dermatologist should be included after insertion. I have used countless acne products from store bought to natural. I just love when my mom or husband ask me how i got a rash on my face. I can only use powder based make up to cover up, any kid of liquid make up makes mu face look dry and flakey. It's so incredibly frustrating.
Me too. I had mirena a put in a month ago, and have started sweating badly. I hate it. It is 2 weeks a away from winter and I'm in t- shirts. When I work in the chilled rooms at work, I'm sweating, that's not normal. Without a protective jacket. Still spoting. I'm over it....
I have just read your post and I myself have every single symptom that u have but I've had mine in for nearly 5 yrs. I had to have it as a solution to my endometriosis either that or a hysterectomy and I'm now considering the hysterectomy as I'm finished having anymore children anyway. I never ever thought that any of the things I was goin through could be my mirena
The mirena coil causes acne. No question about it. My skin was perfect I never suffered with any pimples. Had it in for two years and my face looked literally like a 16 year old boys. I cried every night and woke up two hours before work every day to plaster myself in blemish free foundation which I would then dread to take off at the end of the day cause my face was so sore. I had my mirena coil out 2 months ago and all of my spots cleared up in three weeks. I now have a copper iud. Best thing I ever did. Get it out
So this is my second coil I'm 2 1/2 years into my second, last year I started to get hives and rashes and itchy skin I had a bald patches and itchy scalp, it calmed down a little then it's all flared up again at the beginning of spring this year I have been searching every night for possible causes since this all began I was diagnosed with chronic urticia and prescribed antihistamine I stopped taking them they made no difference I also sweat like a race horse I was recently on holiday I had sweat coming out of my shins on my legs ??? What's all that about and I have jaundice in the White of my eyes so for some reason this evening It was like a light bulb and I thought I would check out the side effects low and behold yep I seem to be suffering with most of them ... Ladies thank you for sharing tomorrow I'm going to call the dr and have it removed to see if the symptoms calm down any, I can't see it doing any more harm out then what it is in Just need to find a good alternative contraception. Thank you ladies I was a big believer but I'm starting to change my mind on this IUD xx
I'm just reading this today and feel like this MUST be my problem. I've been sweating EXCESSIVELY for about 6 months and nobody knows why. Doctor thinks it's my anxiety. Not. I sweat alone, sitting in the couch, you name it. Dripping down my face and neck. Literally dripping. Now I've had my PERIOD for three days (heavy) and I've had the Mirena in for about 2.5 years. I haven't gotten my period in like 1.5 years and now I get one? this IUD must be the problem?! I got it though because I had low iron due to heavy periods so not sure what I'll do of this thing has to come out. I'm 44 and married and won't be going on the pill so not sure what to do. Ugh. Who knew!

Yes! Getting it removed today! Look up all of the other side effects on mirena's web site; I have tons of them! Had it for a year and finally thought to look them up!
That's not all Mirena can do. It can also cause perforation of the uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease and ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus). The device may also spontaneously move from the uterus and embed in other parts of the body such as the uterine wall or abdomen, requiring difficult surgery to remove
Be careful, according to WHO, this pill is a group one carcinogen (cancer causing substance.)
