I am also glad to see this thread about Mirena. Acne breakout and occassional sweating,.. I have not to mention bloating, weight gain and water retention. I've never had acne even when I was younger. Now I have to cover new painful acne as well as old scars. Its not stop!! I just ordered some new acne remedy on TV just like Proactiv but this one doesn't dry up the skin and make u breakout more. Hopefully it will help. it just hit my mind recently that It could be the Mirena doing this all this to me. My system is so wacked right now. Too bad, my doc is not available till next month and I only prefer seeing her but it'll surely be worth the wait. Like some of you, I will try to have it taken off and I'll see what happens. I miss my clear face and want my self-esteem back! :(

I've had the copper iud/paragard for a few months now. I can't stress enough that women need to be told that it's not simply "may notice an increase in bleeding and cramps". It's a huge increase, the pain has been incredible sometimes, and I couldn't believe how much I was bleeding (I've never been a heavy bleeder). And then there's the random cramping, it did decrease after the first month, which was pain pretty much on and off every day. And the discharge after a period continues for days, and it's just gross. It was a nice idea, no artificial hormones, no condoms, no remembering to take anything, but I'm trying to decide if it's all still worth it. I just feel stuck, I don't know what else to do.

I am now nearly going onto 4 months with the Mirena and i am really confused. Some people who are on it
swear by it and are telling me to wait till my body gets use to it.I have had nothing but constant breakouts
as well as bloating and bad stomach pains.I have tried everything for my acne which has spread now to my
back and neck.Nothing seems to work and all i am doing is drying and irritating my skin.It doesn't do much for
my self esteem :'( :'( I have a gynaecology appointment in about 3 weeks and i am confused if i should
have it removed cause it just doesn't agree with me or should i just wait to see if my body does get use to it
and my acne and other symptoms get better.I'm also worried my gyno will try to talk me into persisting with it
to see what happens.I am convinced that some women are fine on it while others it doesn't agree with them.

I had been on the pill since I was 17. I'm 38 now. I initially got the Mirena put in as my doctor suggesgted it may help increase my then nonexistent sex drive. I've had the Mirena device in since Feb. 2009 and the acne I'm getting is crazy - it's everywhere (my back, hair, neck, chest, arms). I used to get the odd zit every now and then but at 38 and it's worse than when I was a teenager. I haven't had any problems with excessive sweating but I do get EXTREMELY sore nipples often (it seems more frequent than monthly) and "at that time of the month" I experience pain in my nether regions (front and back) when I sit down. I don't have a period to speak of (odd patches of spotting) so that's been the up side of the Mirena but the acne is driving me nuts. I haven't experienced the horrible odour from below that alot of ladies are mentioning as their side effect. I'm seriously thinking about getting it removed and letting my body and hormone levels get back to normal before I decide to go back on the pill again.

This is my second time that I have Mirena, the first time I had it for 2 years after my first child, everything went well and I even got pregnant only 6 months after I had it removed. This time it's been already almost 3 years that I have Mirena. the problem only started about 6 months ago that I have terrible break out which I never had before even in my teen. I have spent a fortune on products but nothing works. I'm convinced that 2 years of Mirena is the maximum of imbalanced hormone that my body can take. However acne and scaring are the only side effect that I experience, I don't sweat and my weight remain the same for the past 6 years. Anyway I already have an appointment with my dr. to have it removed tomorrrow. Hope this will solve my problem... :S

Thanks ladies. I have had mirena since April 2010 and the sweating is disgusting. I am a very clean person and feel as if I am never clean. The sweating from my armpits and from under my breasts is unacceptable. I feel as if I always stink. I have gained weight and am always hungry, especially at night. I have always been in decent shape but I can't lose weight. I have eliminated soda and have really increased my water intake. I am 37 and have just thought I was getting older and my metabolism is slowing down. But now u am thinking it really might be the mirena. I also sometimes wake up at night sweating. Oh, the discharge was ridiculous too but has decreased this past month. I have an appt to get mirena removed but what's interesting is how my doctors office keeps saying give it more time. I am also on cymbalta. I truly hope it's the mirena and that I will feel clean and hopefully lose a few Pounds. Any replies would be heplful

I had my Mirena out in September and have lost the extra few pounds that wouldn't go away, my acne has cleared up and I'm no longer sweating all the time. My doctor's office told me that those weren't documented side-effects. But, I know my body and it wasn't normal. I'm SO glad I had it removed...but I do miss not having any period what's so ever.

I am so glad that I found this site. Your stories brought tears to my eyes because I felt like I was reading my life story for the last 2 years. I had the Mirena put in almost 3 years ago. The last 2 years I have noticed significant changes in my body. My face-WOW. I have always had issues with breakouts but it has gone to a whole new level. The lower part of my face around my mouth and chin area is so completely scared that sometimes when I look in the mirror I just cry. My dermatologist has tried topical creams and even put me on Spironolactone. Nothing has worked. I have new breakouts daily. It has gotten to the point where I have no choice but to wear makeup because I think people are staring at my face wondering what the hell is wrong with me. I am a clean person. I tried Proactiv and saw slight improvement but then I found out I am allergic to benzoyl peroxide so I had to stop using it. My moods are also just CRAZY. Sometimes I reflect on how I am acting and think I am just completely insane. I have never been so up and down in my entire life. I have absolutely NO sex drive. I started to think that I wasn't attracted to my boyfriend anymore. Which is just crazy because he is such a handsome guy and I love him. The sweating is starting to bother me just as much as the lack of interest in sex. I have ruined so many shirts because of sweat stains. I am not a large person nor out of shape. I have a desk job and I will sit there and just sweat for NO REASON. It's frankly just disgusting and I cannot take it anymore. I started becoming really depressed about my face, sweating, and sex drive so I googled some stuff and here I am. I have thought from time to time that all of this might be linked to the Mirena. I always thought the pill was terrible but I will take that any day over going through this madness. I will be calling my doctor once Christmas is over to have this monster removed. I'm so sorry that this has happened to so many women. You need to get it removed or these issues will not go away.

Will post with results. Take care of yourselves!

I got the IUD inserted in February 2010 after 2 months on giving birth to my baby. I had no problem with it at first until October of this year. It seem like my face flared up at one time. I'll have 3 to 4 pimples on each cheeck which they was quite painful. After the pimples dry up, I have dark spots left on my face which I can not stand. By me being light-skinned, from beautiful smooth skin to bumpy spotty skin I'm very disappointed with the IUD. Not to mention I have bad headaches. I'm getting the IUD removed so hopefully my face will clear back up. Back on the pills I go. :'(

I recently just posted on another thread regarding Mirena and bleeding/cramping after 3 years. I also commented there asking if anyone had experienced an increase in acne (I never had acne growing up) and night sweats - I mean clothes, sheets everything soaked through.
Everything with my Mirena was perfect up until this 3rd year and now it just feels like everything is going haywire. If things do not improve and I get my period again I will definitely be having it removed (but I really don't want to bc I love not having a period). Seems I'm damned if I do and damned if I dont.

Holy wow! So I have NEVER had acne until about two years ago. I have had the mirena in for about 3.5 years. I have been trying for just about that long to figure out why in HEAVEN'S name I have such bad acne all of a sudden. I have tried everything from laser treatments to prescriptions to fancy soaps and scrubs, NOTHING WORKS!!! I thought it might be due to the change in climate when I moved or stress. Nothing made sense! After reading all of these posts I am DEFINITELY going to talk to my doctor about getting the IUD removed!!! Thanks ladies!!!! o.O

Hello guys! well I can relate to this as well! I cannot say if Mirena for sure caused me to break out on my chin area because I have had it for 3 yrs already, but I went ahead and got my chin waxed and ever since I have been breaking out on my chin. It looks horrible and I am emberrased to show my neck; I cannot even wear my hair up. I have tried Proactiv and still not working. My mom suggested to take the Mirena out because that might be a side effect, and there you go acne IS A SIDE EFFECT! I am not sure what to do?? I love Mirena but I don't think I can do this acne thing any more my self-esteem has decreased and I am getting married in July so I really want my face cleared up! I did make an appt with a dermatologist and OB to see what I should do. I have never had birth control so I do not know what use instead? THanks for hearing me out and opened for suggestions :-)
